Fremont man dies in crash

BALLVILLE TWP. — The Ohio State Highway Patrol's Fremont post is investigating a fatal crash that occurred just after 11:30 a.m. Saturday on Ohio 53 at Buckland Avenue in Sandusky County. A report outlines what allegedly occurred: • A 2024 Kia Forte, driven by Richard Berger, 85, of Fremont, was traveling westbound on Buckland Avenue. • A 2009 Ford F-250, driven by a 38-year-old Sandusky man, was traveling southbound on Ohio 53. • Berger attempted to cross Ohio 53 when he failed to yield to southbound traffic and was struck by the Ford F-250. • "Berger's vehicle came to rest in the center median." • "Berger was transported to Fremont Promedica Hospital where he was pronounced deceased." • The Sandusky man's vehicle "overturned and went off of the southwest corner of theintersection prior to final rest." • The man "was treated on scene by local first responders and was not transported to a hospital." The crash remains under investigation at this time.
