Dozens attend 12th-annual Holly Run

MILAN — On Saturday, the air was cool, but the mood was warm and inviting for the 12th-annual#TeamHolly 5K & Fun Run and After Party, an event honoring the memory of Holly Sneider. Participants walked and ran a pre-marked course, starting and ending near the Edison Memorial United Methodist Church. The event, also known as the Holly Run, consists of a 5K and fun run followed by an after-party at Milan Township Hall. Participants received awards and enjoyed snacks and drinks at the after-party following the 5K and fun run. Sponsored by Fisher-Titus, all event proceeds will benefit the Edison Athletic Boosters. Holly passed away at the age of 39 from cancer in 2011, leaving behind her husband, Steve, and their three children. Steve appreciated Holly's genuine personality and compassion for others. "Holly was a fantastic human being who cared more about other people than herself. She was always concerned about everybody else", Steve said. Race director Zach Rospert, who noted about 250 participated in this year's event, commented on the origins of the Holly Run. "Her oldest daughter, Ashley, was a big runner", Rospert said. "She always thought of her mom when she ran, so she wanted to have a 5K where people can do things and honor the people they love." Amy Facemire, a math teacher at Edison High School, was among the participants enjoying the event. "I have run the Holly Run every year that it's happened except for the second and third ones, and I just like that it brings the whole community together and honors the life of a really special woman", Facemire said.
