Sandusky announces 2025 leaf collection schedule

SANDUSKY — Sandusky's citywide leaf collection program starts on Wednesday. "Leaf collection is performed in the fall to help prevent leaves from clogging the sewer system, create safe driving conditions and maintain a clean and healthy city," according to a city statement. "Streets and traffic crews work together to service the city by zone," the statement continued. "Participants are asked to pay close attention to the dates and times to ensure they receive the best service possible." For residents to participate in the free program, they must follow these guidelines: • Do not place leaves or yard debris in the street. This is a violation of a city littering ordinance. • Leaves must be placed within 6 feet of the curb by 7 a.m. on the first scheduled pickup day in your zone. This time will be strictly enforced. Note: For residents on Cedar Point Road/Chaussee, leaves must be placed on the south side of the street. Leaves piled on the north/lakeside will not be collected. • Pickup is for leaves only. No sticks or other yard waste will be collected and could damage the equipment. • Leaves placed behind parked cars will not be collected. Property owners are encouraged to coordinate on-street parking with neighbors during their collection dates. • People can bag their leaves in paper bags. But leaves in plastic bags will not be collected. "Piles that fail to meet these guidelines will be marked with an 'X' in paint," according to the statement. "A notice will be left at the door, and the address will be noted by the driver." There will be a leaf drop-off area near the Marquette Drive entrance to the City Service Center seven days a week up until Jan. 31 for those who miss their scheduled pickup or have additional leaves for disposal. Leaves must be placed in paper bags for this drop-off service. Schedule of collection zones and dates • Zone 1: Nov. 24-26, Dec. 15-17 — east of Meigs Street and Sycamore Line to the city limits, including the Cedar Point Chaussee • Zone 2: Nov. 12-14, Dec. 3-5 — west of Meigs Street and Sycamore Line to Columbus Avenue from Water Street to the railroad tracks • Zone 3: Nov. 17-19, Dec. 8-10 — west of Columbus Avenue to Camp Street from Sandusky Bay to the railroad tracks • Zone 4: Nov. 20-22, Dec. 10-12 — west of Camp Street, including the Venice area • Zone 5 Dec. 1-3, 17-19 — south of the railroad, east of Camp Street to the city limits People can visit cityofsandusky.com/leafcollection to find their specific zone. Property owners are reminded that raking or blowing leaves and yard debris into the street is prohibited. In addition, when excess leaves accumulate in neighborhood storm drains, the city recommends that property owners remove the debris on top of the grate and dispose of it. The best time to clean a storm drain is before a rainstorm. All dates are subject to change.
