An eye-opening experience

FREMONT — The Sandusky County Communities Foundation recently announced the establishment of the new Sight Center Blindness and Low Vision organizational endowment fund. It's in partnership with The Sight Center of Northwest Ohio, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering people with permanent vision loss to live independently. Founded in 1923 as the Toledo Society for the Blind, The Sight Center offers programs and services including low vision clinics, high-tech assistive devices, daily living adaptations, home safety enhancements, white cane training and caregiver support. While headquartered in Toledo, the center also maintains a clinic in Fremont, providing local residents with access to specialized vision rehabilitation services. "This new endowment fund is an incredible way to support The Sight Center's mission and ensure that resources benefit our community here in Fremont and Sandusky County," foundation executive director Andrea Gibson said. October marked Blindness Awareness Month, and this year, "The Sight Center celebrated the dedication of the Ohio Historical Marker outside its facility and premiered its first documentary, highlighting the life-changing impact of its programs," according to an organization statement.
