100-plus apartments coming to local area

VERMILION TWP. — Construction work continues on a new apartment project along a busy route in the Vermilion area. Overseen by Redwood Apartments, the construction company continues work on building 137 single-story rental homes on about 23 acres in Vermilion Township's southern corridor. More specifically, it's located off Ohio 60 across from gas stations housing a Dunkin' and Taco Bell, not far from Vermilion High School. From the road, motorists traveling through the area have likely noticed a poured concrete access road in preparation for home sites. Vermilion Township trustees noted the project totals about $30 million, a cost fully fronted by Redwood. With a layout similar to its other properties — including those in the Norwalk, Sandusky and on Wine Street in Vermilion — each unit will feature two bedrooms, two bathrooms and an attached two-car garage. Redwood, based in Independence, Ohio, builds suburban-style rental communities that resemble small housing subdivisions rather than traditional apartment complexes. The company targets residents seeking maintenance-free, single-floor living. It's assumed people can begin moving in sometime in 2026. Full build-out will continue in phases. Rental information for the Ohio 60 properties isn't posted on Redwood's website, however, similar units at the other Vermilion property range from $1,850 to $2,350 a month.
