2 indicted for last year's shootout in Sandusky

SANDUSKY — Authorities identified the first two suspects of a late-night shootout occurring 10 months ago in Sandusky, which hospitalized two and wounded three others.Sandusky police commanders on Friday told the Register an Erie County grand jury secretly indicted two men — Sandusky resident Brandon Green, 25, and Toledo resident Ryan Anderson, 29 — who allegedly played roles in the gunfire-related incident taking place in June 2018 at the now-shuttered Milan Road Bar & Grill, 1504 Milan Road.Both men are currently incarcerated — Green in the Erie County jail and Anderson in the Lucas County jail — on what appears to be numerous crimes both related to and unaffiliated with this incident.Andeson, Ryan L. (left) and Green, Brandon D.Regarding the Milan Road Bar & Grill incident, Sandusky police Detective Gary Wichman said Green, an Olds Street resident, faces charges of inducing panic, aggravated rioting and felonious assault.Anderson won't receive charges for this incident "until he's brought back here in Erie County," Wichman said.Wichman couldn't elaborate on Anderson's charges or go deep into circumstances surrounding Green's offenses due to the "secret" label of their indictments. An indictment is a formal charge and does not denote guilt or innocence.Though Wichman did provide some context."It appears Brandon was one of the main instigators that started the fight on the inside," Wichman said.Wichman then explained what transpired over the past year to result in pinpointing suspects from this case."It was quite a large crime scene," said Wichman, who, along with other detectives, relied upon forensic evidence and viewed footage captured from many surveillance cameras perched atop nearby buildings for clues. "We were able to reconstruct a lot of what had occurred that night. It was very time-consuming, and we didn't want to jump to any conclusions. "We have been working with Toledo police and their gang unit to identify people."Wichman called these initial two arrests "extremely important" in a long process to bring closure to a very scary situation."We don't want this to occur in the city," Wichman said. "This isn't the wild west. In the morning, detectives surmised more than 70 shots were fired, and five people sustained varying injuries.Nobody ended up dying. First responders, however, did transport two victims to Firelands Regional Medical Center, where they were immediately treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries.Police recovered two semi-automatic handguns from the scene. They then determined several bullet holes sliced through vehicles, marked up buildings, and one even pierced through an East Parish Street home.In the time since, landlords of the building did not renew a lease with Milan Road Bar & Grill proprietors.
