Schweinfurth, Kuhns, Keller named top players in SBC

After losing three of its first four games, Perkins has won seven straight games. Senior quarterback Sam Schweinfurth has been a constant throughout for the Pirates, completing 150 of 222 passes for 2,340 yards, 26 touchdowns and just one interception this season. For his play, Schweinfurth was named the Most Outstanding Performer in the Lake Division when the Sandusky Bay Conference released its league honors Tuesday. Perkins won the league title — its fourth in a row — by going 4-0 in league play. The Pirates won their four league games by an average of 40.3 points. He was joined on the Lake Division first team by teammates Blake Parker (receiver), Braxden Martin (running back, linebacker), Eli Sanchez (center), Joey Ziegler (tackle), John McGlashan (defensive line), Kaden Legando (defensive back) and Bryce Davie (defensive back). Clyde, which started 0-4 but rallied to make a playoff appearance, had five first team picks: Mason Flewelling (end), Adam Young (running back), Curtis Dick (defensive line), Hector Garza (linebacker) and Dekin Crockett (defensive back). Norwalk had the only other area first team picks in Nathan King (guard) and Tommy Vanderpool (kicker). Sandusky wasn't represented on the first team, but had four second team honorees: Terrell Ruiz (receiver), Brayden Peugeot (center), Donovan Gant (defensive line) and Dante Shipp Jr. (defensive back). Second team picks for Perkins were Bob Hutchinson (guard), Landon Flores (linebacker) and Grant Hickman (specialist). For Clyde, Crockett (receiver) and Brady Dukeshire (tackle) were second team picks. Norwalk had five second team honorees: Cade Evans (end), AJ Weilnau (running back), King (defensive line), Nico Helton (linebacker) and Gavin Lepley (defensive back). Kuhns top pick in Bay Vermilion senior running back Evan Kuhns missed the first game of the season, a win for the Sailors over Margaretta. Once he returned, he was nearly unstoppable. Kuhns racked up 177 rushes for 1,600 yards and 17 touchdowns and was named the SBC Bay Division Most Outstanding Performer. Kuhns was the only first team pick for Vermilion. Bellevue and Edison split the league championship and each had a plethora of first team honorees. For the Redmen, Caden Cramer (end, linebacker), Tatum Gore (guard, defensive line), Reid Claus (tackle, defensive line) and Konner Dauch (defensive back) were honored. Edison had seven players selected: Coltyn Meagrow (receiver), Jacob Kuhl (center), Chaz Smith (guard), Tristian Wetherill (tackle), Ryder Kramb (linebacker), Andy Strecker (defensive back) and Alex Davidson (specialist). For Port Clinton, Gavin Cornell (receiver, linebacker), Malakii Pinkelton (running back) and Caleb Spencer (defensive line) were first team picks. Huron had two players honored on the first team: Landon Hohler (quarterback, defensive back) and Caleb Staley (receiver). Second team picks for Vermilion were Brock Meyers (receiver), Chad Ellis (guard, defensive line), Daniel Roy (linebacker) and James Bengele (defensive back). Edison had five second team picks: Brody McFadden (end), Cayden Clere (running back, linebacker), Kuhl (defensive line) and Cole Leimeister (defensive back). Second team selections for Bellevue were Ike Brown (quarterback), Deacon Nunez (center) and Billy Sberna (defensive line). Port Clinton added three picks to the second team: Julian Curry (tackle), Brody Bollinger (defensive back) and Christian Miller (specialist). Huron finished out the second team selections with Braxton Barrett (receiver) and Owen Ryan (linebacker). Keller leads River selections Margaretta won an outright league title for the first time since 1996 when the Polar Bears took the SBC River Division championship this season. Senior running back Judah Keller was a big reason why Margaretta went 9-1, tallying 116 rushes for 1,027 yards and 15 touchdowns. He was also named first team defensive back after racking up 119 tackles and four interceptions. For that, he was named Most Outstanding Performer in the River Division. Margaretta also had four other first team picks on offense: Kale Bailey (receiver), Camden Hineline (center), Mason Yetter (guard) and Landon Weyer (tackle). Weyer (defensive line) and Brett Miller (linebacker) were first team picks on defense while Jake Bouy got the nod at specialist. Jake Bouy was the second team pick at quarterback while Zack Bouy took honors at receiver and defensive back. Also on the second team for Margaretta was Cohen Gahler (defensive line), Mason Kromer (linebacker) and Tyson Bailey (linebacker). Kromer (end), Rob Cox (tackle) and Jace Berg (defensive line) were honorable mention selections.
