Huron's Hotz named to Division V All-Ohio team

Huron sophomore setter Reece Hotz was named third team All-Ohio in Division V by the state coaches association. The Tigers' Jada Foster, a sophomore outside hitter, made the honorable mention list. Hotz finished the season with 867 assists, 311 digs and 50 blocks for a Huron team that finished 21-6 and advanced to a regional final. Foster had 280 kills and 55 blocks. Willard's Camryn Wiers was a third team selection in Division V. Those three joined Columbian's Kaela Jenkins (second team, Division III) as the only All-Ohio picks from the Sandusky Bay Conference Lake and Bay divisions. The Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association announced their picks Sunday. In Division VII, Monroeville junior libero Addison Homan was named to the first team. Homan has 744 digs for the 24-2 Eagles, who face Russia in a state semifinal at 6 p.m. Thursday. Monroeville senior middle hitter Alexa Adams (244 kills, 252 digs, 57 aces) and St. Paul junior middle hitter Ella Kalizewski (290 kills, 44 blocks) were second team selections in Division VII. Monroeville's Madison Reiber, a senior outside hitter, and St. Paul junior setter Annie Friend were honorable mention picks. SBC River Division member Tiffin Calvert, the No. 1 team in Division VII, had three All-Ohio selections in junior outside hitter Bella Borgio and junior setter Bryn Dircksen (both first team) and senior outside hitter Emily Miller (third team). The OHSVCA will sponsor a senior all-star game November 16 at Wooster High School. All All-Ohioans are invited to attend at receive their plaques. District 6 coaches also announced their honor squads Sunday. In Division IV, Bellevue junior Finley LaPata was named player of the year and was one of five first team picks from the area. LaPata had 256 kills and 243 digs for the Lady Red. Also on the D-IV first team were Clyde senior Lucy Glass, Bellevue junior Kate Baptista, Clyde junior Kelsey Ray and Vermilion junior Emma Gebhardt. Area players on the second team were Clyde senior Brooklyn Hemminger, Bellevue senior Kaitlyn Turinsky, Vermilion sophomore Sophie Habermehl and senior Lauren Logsdon. Bellevue's Liana Petitti, who guided the Lady Red to a 19-5 record and co-championship in the SBC Lake, was named Division IV coach of the year in the district. In Division V, Huron's Hotz and sophomores Foster and Mya Smith were named to the first team. Edison's Taylor Moore also made the first team and Wiers was named player of the year. Huron sophomore Adelyn Van Sickle and Edison senior Ella Booth made the second team. Huron seniors Maggie Orzech and Addison Graham, Edison seniors Stella Brown and Dana Preston and Port Clinton senior Marissa Frohne made the third team. Area athletes named honorable mention were Port Clinton junior Lilly Wagner and PC sophomore Tatum Higgins and Edison junior Macari Harris. Huron's Don Wood and Willard's Ashley Bond were co-coaches of the year in Division V. In Division VI, Margaretta senior Kenadie Saylor was a second team pick. The Polar Bears' Lily Belak made the third team. In Division VII, Monroeville's Homan and Alexa Adams were named to the first team, along with St. Paul's Kalizewski. Monroeville's Reiber and senior Ady Adams made the second team along with St. Paul's Friend. The third team included Danbury junior Lauren Bergman, Monroeville senior Addison Lyons, St. Paul sophomore Brooklyn Cassidy and St. Paul senior Lily Cuturic. Monroeville senior Maddy Miller was an honorable mention pick. Monroeville's Kendra Snook and Calvert's Lori Rombach were co-coaches of the year in Division VII. Norwalk junior Sawyer Wineman was a first team pick on the combined Division II/III team. Norwalk sophomore Madeline Gamble made the second team while Truckers junior Emily Tyler and sophomore Ainslee King were on the third team.
