Birthplace brings back candlelight tours

MILAN — Back by popular demand, the Edison Birthplace Association will, once, again, offer candlelight tours during the holiday season. "After a sold-out debut last year, the Festive Candlelight Tour returns for three special evenings filled with history, charm and holiday magic," according to an association statement. Here's how it works, as explained by an association statement: • "Guests will each hold their own battery-lit candle as they step back in time and explore the rooms where young Thomas Edison's imagination first sparked." • "The birthplace transforms into a serene candlelit setting, adorned with festive decor and the nostalgic spirit of Christmases past." • "With each flicker of light, stories of the Edison family, their home and Milan's rich history come to life intimately and timelessly." The season's first tour, on Nov. 28, coinciding with Milan's Town Square Lighting Celebration, sold out. Two more, however, remain available: on Friday, Dec. 5 and Friday, Dec. 12. People can meet at the Edison Birthplace Museum, 9 N. Edison Drive, Milan. Tours begin at 7 p.m. They'll "offer the same cozy, story-filled experience for guests looking to capture the season's quiet magic." "Each evening promises a peaceful escape from the bustle of the holidays, a chance to slow down, soak in the glow, and celebrate the season through the light of history," the statement read. Tickets are required to attend. People can purchase tickets and learn more information by visiting tomedison.org/event-list. Come out for Xmas celebration Additionally, the birthplace welcomes people to attend its Christmas celebration, scheduled for 1-5 p.m. on Nov. 30. This is "a festive afternoon filled with holiday decor, history and shopping," an association statement read. "Guests can tour the Edison Birthplace and Don Gfell Education Center, both beautifully decorated for the season. People can show up to this event without tickets.
