Nine area teams in position to make football playoffs

COLUMBUS — Nine area football teams are in position to make the playoffs after the Ohio High School Athletic Association released its computer ratings Tuesday. The final report will be released this Sunday when the top 12 teams in each region will qualify for the playoffs. Margaretta (8-1) is the only area team that has clinched a first-round bye, sitting at No. 2 in Division VI Region 22. The Polar Bears host Gibsonburg (7-2) on Friday with a chance to clinch an outright Sandusky Bay Conference River Division title. Monroeville (7-2) is No. 4 in Division VII Region 25. The Eagles host St. Paul (5-4), which is No. 8 in Region 25, looking to win an outright Firelands Conference title. Division IV Region 14 is peppered with local teams. Bellevue (6-3) is No. 6 while Perkins (6-3) is No. 7. The Redmen host Vermilion (5-4), 11th in Region 14, on Friday. Perkins hits the road at Columbian (5-4) looking to win the SBC Lake Division outright. Edison (6-3) is No. 6 in Division V Region 18. The Chargers can win at least a share of the SBC Bay Division title when it hosts Huron (3-6) on Friday. The Tigers sit on the outside looking in at 15th in Division VI Region 22. Port Clinton (5-4) travels to Sandusky (1-8) in Week 10. The Redskins are 11th in Region 18 and a win should get PC in the playoffs. Clyde (3-6) is 14th in Region 14 and needs a win over Norwalk (3-6) and help to get in. The Truckers face a similar situation, entering the regular-season finale at 16th in Division III Region 10. Regional quarterfinal games will be played October 31 and will include the No. 12 seed at the No. 5 seed, No. 11 at No. 6, No. 10 at No. 7 and No. 9 at No. 8. The top four seeds in each region will get a first-round bye. The latest Associated Press state poll was released Tuesday, as well. Margaretta remained No. 4 in Division VI while Gibsonburg came in at No. 13 in Division VII. Perkins is No. 12 in Division IV while Monroeville is No. 14 in Division VII. Cincinnati Elder (Div. I), Cincinnati Anderson (Div. II), Columbus Bishop Watterson (Div. III), Shelby (Div. IV), Liberty Center (Div. V), Kirtland (Div. VI) and Marion Local (Div.
