PREP ROUNDUP: Perkins boys soccer rolls in tournament opener

PERKINS TWP. — Perkins' boys soccer team made quick work of Toledo Bowsher in a Division III sectional semifinal Monday, rolling to a 14-0 win at Firelands Health Stadium. Titus Normington-Slay led the Pirates' outburst with four goals as the third-seeded Pirates improved to 15-0-3 in a game that ended at halftime due to the tournament's 8-goal mercy rule. Ryan Wells added three goals and three assists for Perkins. Kohen Fullerton finished with two goals. Scoring one goal apiece were Kaden Camp, Maddox Boggs, Kannyn Henson, Talon Walton and Mateusz Dixon. Camp also had three assists while Anthony Bonica added two assists. Bowsher, the 12th seed in the Northwest 1 district, finished its season at 5-9. The Pirates, who scored eight or more goals for the 11th time this season, host 10th-seeded Sandusky in a sectional final at 5 p.m. Thursday. The Blue Streaks (1-13-1) took a first-round bye. St. Marys 3, Norwalk 1 ST. MARYS — Norwalk dropped a 3-1 contest at St. Marys Memorial in a tournament opener. Noah Jameson scored a second-half goal for the Truckers off an assist from Kingston Gonzales. Abe Linder made nine saves in goal for eighth-seeded Norwalk, which finished the season with a 10-7 record. Second-seeded St. Marys improved to 13-2-3. GIRLS SOCCER Division IV Galion 2, Bellevue 1 GALION — Galion outscored Bellevue 5-4 in a shootout to win a tournament opener. Lyla Young scored for the eighth-seeded Lady Red in regulation. The two teams were tied after 40 minutes before playing two scoreless 15-minute overtime sessions before deciding the winner on penalty kicks. Bellevue finished 5-10-1 in its first season playing soccer as a varsity sport. Seventh-seeded Galion (8-9-1) advances to play top-seeded Clear Fork in the sectional finals. Rossford 3, Port Clinton 0 ROSSFORD — Ninth-seeded Port Clinton was shut out by eighth-seeded Rossford 3-0 in its tournament opener. The Redskins finished their season with a 7-9-1 record. PC defeated Rossford 2-1 last Thursday in the regular season. Rossford (9-9) will visit third-seeded Eastwood in a sectional final Wednesday. VOLLEYBALL Division III Sandusky 3, Mansfield 0 SANDUSKY — Sandusky swept Mansfield Senior 25-13, 25-11, 25-10 in a Division III tournament opener. No Sandusky stats were reported. The eighth-seeded Blue Streaks improved to 2-17 and will meet Tiffin Columbian in a sectional final at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Tiffin. Sandusky was swept twice in the regular season by the Sandusky Bay Conference Lake Division co-champion Tornadoes. Ninth-seeded Mansfield finished its season 0-21. BOYS GOLF Finneran 25th after first round at state SUNBURY — St. Mary Central Catholic's Blake Finneran shot an 81 and is tied for 25th place after the first round of the Division III boys state golf tournament. Finneran, a senior, had 11 pars, five bogeys and two double bogeys to finish 9 over par at NorthStar Golf Club. He will tee off Tuesday at 10:50 a.m. for his final 18 holes. Berlin Hiland's Jack Mast shot a 2-under 70 to take the first round lead. Kalida's Paul Stechschulte (71) also was under par. Warren John F. Kennedy is leading the team competition with a 309. Berlin Hiland (319) and Pettisville (320) are second and third after one round. A total of 12 teams and 72 total golfers are competing in the tournament.
