City's Halloween parade route changed

BELLEVUE — Earlier this week, Bellevue officials, including city Mayor Kevin Strecker, released details as it pertains to this year's Halloween parade, scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 30. Just like last year, it'll go through the heart of Bellevue. But some changes with the route will occur. Strecker detailed what attendees and participants can expect: • The parade begins forming at 5:15 p.m. at Bellevue High School, 200 Oakland Ave. • The parade then begins at 6 p.m., turning right onto Northwest Street, heading south and turning left onto North Street. • The parade will end at Central Park, 215 North St. "This was done for a number of reasons, but safety is our first concern," Strecker said. Last year, the parade went through and closed down U.S. 20 for upward of 45 minutes, which "is no longer something we can or should do," Strecker said. Regarding the new route, Strecker said, "Hopefully, this will work out and be better and safer for everyone involved." Some other notes to take into account as Strecker relayed: • "On-street parking will be removed from Northwest Street for a couple of hours for the safety of the parade." • "Immediately after the parade, the Mad River & NKP Railroad Museum will host this year's Safe Halloween event." • "It has also been decided that the Christmas parade will use this same route."
