PREP ROUNDUP: Monroeville clinches Firelands title

MONROEVILLE — Division VII No. 5 Monroeville defeated New London 25-18, 24-26, 25-15, 25-22, clinching the outright Firelands Conference volleyball championship Tuesday. Ady Adams (four aces) and Madi Reiber each tallied 13 kills for the Eagles (18-2, 13-0 FC). Alexa Adams had 11 digs, eight kills and four aces for Monroeville while Riley Platte and Gabby Loose each lined seven kills. Kaci Poths (two aces) tallied 26 assists and 16 digs while Addison Lyons had 17 assists and 12 digs. Addison Homan led the Monroeville defense with 30 digs. Maddy Miller added 16 digs and three aces for the Eagles. Bellevue 3, Sandusky 0 BELLEVUE — The Lady Red picked up a 25-8, 25-14, 25-6 SBC Lake Division win over Sandusky. Finley LaPata (nine digs, four aces), Hallie McCarthy and Calie Cramer each smacked seven kills for Bellevue (17-4, 7-2 SBC Lake). Ellie Freitag had 21 assists and seven digs, Kate Baptista picked up 13 digs and Holly Caranfa added nine assists for the Lady Red. Sandusky fell to 1-16, 0-9. Huron 3, Margaretta 0 CASTALIA — The Tigers improved to 15-5 overall and 8-1 in SBC Bay play with a 25-13, 25-9, 25-9 win over Margaretta. Mya Smith lined 10 kills for Huron while Reece Hotz tallied 30 assists. Adelyn Van Sickle contributed 11 digs, Maggie Orzech and Jenna Cox each had 10 digs and Addison Graham finished with nine kills for the Tigers. Lilly Belak paced the Polar Bears (6-15, 3-6) with 11 digs while Ella Limberios had seven digs. Vermilion 3, Port Clinton 0 VERMILION — The Sailors topped Port Clinton 25-22, 25-17, 25-19 in a SBC Bay Division contest. Sophie Habermehl (eight digs) contributed 16 kills for Vermilion (9-12, 4-5) while Emma Gebhardt had 13 kills. Lauren Logsdon (nine digs) led the Sailors with 27 assists while Delaney Russell had 14 digs. Elizabeth Okasinski had 13 digs for the Sailors. Port Clinton fell to 4-17, 0-9. St. Paul 3, Crestview 0 NORWALK — The Flyers topped Crestview in Firelands Conference action. Brooklyn Cassidy topped St. Paul (14-6, 11-2 FC) with 11 kills. Ella Kalizewski and Kegney Stoll each had six kills and Shealyn Deeter added four. Annie Friend had 21 assists and 12 digs for the Flyers. Taegen Mansfield-Bush finished with 10 digs while Lily Cuturic added seven digs and Stoll had six. It was Senior Night for the Flyers, which included Cuturic, Bella Guerra, Deeter, Mansfield-Bush and Stoll. Lakota 3, Danbury 0 KANSAS — The Raiders won their 12th straight match, topping Danbury 25-20, 25-14, 25-10 in SBC River Division action. Lauren Bergman tallied 23 digs for the Lakers (10-11, 6-8 SBC River) while Cali Wunder tallied nine assists. Avrey Bowling and Aaliyah Ohm each had four kills for Danbury. Lakota improved to 15-6, 10-5. Willard 3, Edison 1 WILLARD — The Crimson Flashes slipped past Edison 25-9, 25-9, 22-25, 25-19 in SBC Bay Division play. Taylor Moore led the Chargers (8-12, 4-5 SBC Bay) with 16 digs and 10 points (two aces) served. Dana Preston lined eight kills, Ella Booth tallied seven kills and Paige McFadden had 11 assists for Edison. Stella Brown topped the Chargers with 10 digs. Willard improved to 17-3, 8-1. Columbian 3, Clyde 0 TIFFIN — The Tornadoes swept Clyde 25-18, 25-14, 25-14 in SBC Lake Division action. Columbian improved to 14-7 overall and 7-2 in league play. Clyde fell to 7-14, 3-6. GIRLS GOLF 2nd round of state cancelled SPRINGBORO — Weather forced the cancelation of the second round of the Division II girls state golf tournament at Heatherwoode Golf Club. Margaretta senior Ellyse Schaefer finished tied for 25th after her round of 85 on Monday. "I'm obviously really bummed out the last match of my high school career was canceled, but very thankful for this opportunity," Schaefer said. "It definitely doesn't feel like my career is over, but this was a great way to end it. The experience was very cool. Getting to play in the state tournament on such a nice course with the best golfers in the state is something I'll never forget. "All the rule officials, volunteers, spotters and cameras were something I wasn't expecting, but was great to experience." No scores were recorded Tuesday. Columbus Academy is the state champion after a team total of 317 in the first round. The Vikings' Eva Lim is the individual state champion after posting a one-under 70 on Monday. "I couldn't be prouder of Ellyse," Margaretta coach Christine Smith said. "Qualifying for the state golf tournament is an accomplishment in itself which not many get to experience. Ending the tournament in 25th place out of 72 is outstanding. She has shown dedication, composure, and has been a great leader, all season long. "She has represented Margaretta with class both on and off the course. It's tough to see her season end with the weather taking over, especially when she has worked so hard to get here."
