Input could land better beach

SANDUSKY — Sandusky officials seek the public's help to vastly improve Lions Park, which includes creating a better beach experience. Here's what people should know and what to possibly expect with excerpts provided by the city: • The objective: "The city of Sandusky is working to clean up and create a better beach experience for the residents of Sandusky." • The problems, part 1: "Lions Park beach currently has a lot of debris and fish die-offs each year. It's difficult to access for park-goers as well and can create an unpleasant waterfront experience. The city wants to change that." • The problems, part 2: "Over the past 10 to 15 years, Lions Park has lost shoreline because of constant wave action along Sandusky Bay. While the city has placed large rocks to slow the erosion, parts of the park remain vulnerable." • The goals: "The project aims to design long-term shoreline protection so the park doesn't continue to wash away while also reimagining the beach as a cleaner, more welcoming and more accessible space for the community.
