All set to Spike Out Epilepsy

Editor's note: Edison High School seniors who play on the school's volleyball team — Kourtney Balde, Ella Booth, Stella Brown, Paige McFadden, Taylor Moore, Dana Preston and Peyton Taylor — led organizational efforts for an upcoming fundraiser to support epilepsy in honor of the late Kami Moon. MILAN TWP. — On Saturday, Oct. 11, Edison High School, along with St. Paul High School, will host a special volleyball fundraiser. Titled Spike Out Epilepsy, it's in honor of Kami Moon — a beloved local radio personality, community supporter and 1996 graduate of Edison High School — who passed away at the age of 47. The event will begin at 9 a.m. with the junior varsity game starting at 10 a.m. and varsity to follow. It takes place at Edison High School. All proceeds will go toward epilepsy research and support programs for families affected by epilepsy with the money being donated to Epilepsy of Ohio. The day will also feature a bake sale, 50/50 raffle and basket raffle with winners drawn during the varsity game. Attendance is not required to win. Moon was well-known for her warm, familiar voice on WLKR and K96, using her platform to champion numerous causes. She: • Supported breast cancer survivors through events, like Girls Night Out • Honored veterans, including with the Maxton W. Soviak Memorial Foundation's Tango Trot in Berlin Heights • Promoted student-athletes, especially those representing Edison High School at the Milan Melon Festival and Night at the Races Her dedication to others left a lasting impact on the community she loved. The seven Edison seniors grew up listening to Moon on the radio and felt that this was a way to give back in her name. Additionally, WLKR-FM, 95.3 will air its "Locker Room Show" live from Edison High School during this match from 9-10 a.m. Then K96, 96.1, will air the varsity volleyball match when it starts that morning. Event organizers invite everyone to come together to celebrate Moon's life, enjoy great volleyball and raise funds for an important cause.
