WEEK 7: Huron travels to Bellevue for key SBC Bay matchup

Edison has won the last two Sandusky Bay Conference Bay Division titles. The Chargers started league play last week with a win, but steps into SBC crossover action this week at Clyde. Huron was the only SBC Bay team that won in league play last week to have another league game this week, giving the Tigers the chance to get to 2-0 in league play first. "We've played a tough schedule to start the season and had close losses to Oak Harbor, Genoa, and Tiffin Columbian," Huron coach Sam Hohler said. "Offensively, we have played solid all season long by moving the ball consistently and hitting some big plays. Our defense and special teams have improved as the season has gone along." Huron travels to Bellevue this week, a team that lost a close 21-14 game to Edison last week. "Being 2-0 in the SBC Bay would be huge," Hohler said. "All of our goals are still attainable if we can find a way to win this game. We feel that our non-conference schedule has prepared us for big games like this." The Redmen want to avoid an 0-2 start to league play. "Winning every game is important to us, league games especially," Bellevue coach Alex Shepherd said. "Huron is athletic and have a knack for putting the ball in the end zone." A look at the area games in Week 7: Perkins at Sandusky The Pirates (3-3, 1-0 SBC Lake) look to make it three wins in a row when it travels across town to take on Sandusky. The Blue Streaks (1-5, 0-1) have lost three in a row following a home win over Lorain in Week 3. Sam Schweinfurth has completed 88 of 146 passes for 1,339 yards, 15 touchdowns and one interception for Perkins. Blake Parker, who received an offer from Division I Valparaiso earlier this week, has 34 catches for 662 yards and six touchdowns. For Sandusky, Dale Johnson is 44 of 113 for 783 yards, nine touchdowns and seven interceptions. Dante Shipp has caught 15 passes for 371 yards and five touchdowns while averaging almost 30 yards a kickoff return with one touchdown. Perkins defeated Sandusky last year, 37-0. Huron at Bellevue Big stakes are on the line at Bellevue Athletic Field as Huron (3-3, 1-0 SBC Bay) faces the Redmen (3-3, 0-1). The Tigers haven't won two games in a row yet this year, trading wins and losses through six weeks. Dylan Hohler has completed 119 of 156 passes for 1,713 yards with 16 touchdowns and three interceptions. He has nine rushing touchdowns while Hayden Wilson has tallied 48 rushes for 249 yards and four touchdowns. After starting 3-1, the Redmen have lost consecutive games to Perkins and Edison. Ike Brown is 53 of 121 passing for 560 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions. Caden Cramer leads Bellevue with 20 catches for 226 yards and two touchdowns. Huron topped Bellevue last season, 19-7. Margaretta at Hopewell-Loudon The top two teams in the Sandusky Bay Conference River Division duke it out in Bascom as Division VI No. 13 Margaretta (5-1, 3-0) faces the Division VI No. 2 Chieftains (6-0, 3-0). Margaretta has won five straight games after a Week 1 21-20 loss to Vermilion. Jake Bouy has completed 19 of 35 passes for 472 yards and four touchdowns while running 35 times for 301 yards and eight touchdowns. Judah Keller tops Margaretta with 70 carries for 609 yards and nine touchdowns with Tyson Bailey adding 39 rushes for 283 yards and a touchdown. Jacoby Ellis is 57 of 85 passing for 696 yards, 13 touchdowns and three interceptions for H-L. Jaysin Cramer leads the Chieftains with 357 yards on 58 carries with four touchdowns while Brody Brickman has caught 23 passes for 290 yards and eight touchdowns. Jack Colatruglio adds 17 catches for 281 yards and four touchdowns in five games. Hopewell-Loudon won 16-7 at Margaretta last year before topping the Polar Bears 43-8 at home in the first round of the playoffs. Port Clinton at Vermilion The Redskins (3-3, 0-1 SBC Bay) hit the road for the second week in a row when it faces Vermilion (4-2, 0-0). Landon Leis has completed 60 of 128 passes for 986 yards, 16 touchdowns and four interceptions for Port Clinton. Malakii Pinkelton has run 83 times for 503 yards and six touchdowns. "Vermilion is a tough, physical, and disciplined football team," PC coach Eric Leuthold said. "They run the football very effectively and have an efficient quarterback. They have a defense that plays fast and aggressively. They are a very good football team who make very few mistakes. They control the line of scrimmage well on both sides of the ball." The Sailors are coming off of an upset loss to Norwalk. Evan Kuhns has 86 rushes for 1,017 yards and 12 touchdowns in five games while Drake Hooks has completed 35 of 83 passes for 567 yards. Vermilion defeated Port Clinton last year, 36-27. Edison at Clyde SBC crossover action takes place as Edison (5-1) heads to Clyde to take on the Fliers (1-5). After losing bruising running back Bryson Wittmer to a season-ending injury, the Chargers defeated Bellevue last week. Quarterback Cole Leimeister ran for two touchdowns and has completed 51 of 79 passes for 699 yards, seven touchdowns and four interceptions this year. Wittmer has 57 rushes for 461 yards and 10 touchdowns while Cayden Clere has 46 carries for 307 yards and two touchdowns. Clyde was thumped by Perkins last week, 63-14. Jonathan Lantz is 86 of 147 passing for 935 yards, three touchdowns and nine interceptions. Adam Young leads the ground game with 92 carries for 412 yards and four touchdowns. These two teams did not play last season. Columbian at Norwalk Norwalk (2-4) enters on a high after knocking off Vermilion last week in SBC crossover action. The Truckers open SBC Lake play against the Tornadoes (3-3, 1-0) at Contractors Stadium. Norwalk quarterback Brady Singer has completed 24 of 51 passes for 189 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. AJ Weilnau has 52 rushes for 175 yards and a touchdown while Gavin Lepley has 18 carries for 103 yards and a touchdown. Logan Gooding is 78 of 133 passing for 1,096 yards, 11 touchdowns and one interception for TC. Johnny Bremyer leads the receivers with 28 catches for 443 yards and five touchdowns while Dashawn Russell has 23 receptions for 235 yards and four touchdowns. Columbian defeated Norwalk last season, 47-20. Mapleton at Monroeville After losses to Tiffin Calvert and Seneca East, the Eagles (4-2, 3-0) have won three in a row ahead of Friday's home game against Mapleton (2-4, 1-2). In last week's win over Western Reserve, Colt Clark ran 17 times for 145 yards with three touchdowns while Connor Bores added 11 rushes for 76 yards and a touchdown for Monroeville. Despite the two wins, the Mounties have allowed at least 28 points in all six games this year. Monroeville topped Mapleton last year, 49-0. St. Paul at Crestview The Flyers bounced back from a Week 5 loss to Western Reserve with a 47-6 thumping of New London last week. Now, St. Paul (3-3, 2-1) travels to Crestview (4-2, 3-0) in a key Firelands Conference contest. Grant Kuhnle has completed 69 of 127 passes for 1,022 yards, seven touchdowns and two interceptions. Nick Pocos leads the ground game with 54 rushes for 354 yards and five touchdowns. Crestview started the season with losses to Seneca East and Kirtland, but the Cougars have won four games in a row. St. Paul defeated Crestview last season, 16-15. 8-MAN Danbury at Sebring McKinley The Lakers are one of three teams with one Northern 8 Conference losses entering this week, putting themselves in a position to play in the league playoffs. Danbury (5-1, 2-1) travels Sebring McKinley (3-3, 1-3) on Friday. Tommy Dean has completed 26 of 41 passes for 555 yards, eight touchdowns and two interceptions for the Lakers. Drake Turinsky leads Danbury with 67 rushes for 553 yards and six touchdowns. Dean has 70 carries for 346 yards and seven touchdowns. Danbury topped McKinley last year, 52-0. SMCC at Chalker (Sat.) The Panthers suffered their first season of the loss last week, 29-28 at home to Fremont St. Joseph. Things don't get any easier for SMCC (5-1, 4-1) as it travels to Southington to take on league leader Chalker (5-0, 3-0) in a massive Northern 8 Conference game. Grant Swain didn't play last week for the Panthers as Cullen Dillard stepped in at quarterback and completed 8 of 16 passes for 60 yards and a touchdown. For the season, Bryan Gibson has racked up 70 carries for 650 yards and 13 touchdowns. SMCC defeated Chalker last season, 26-14. SBC Lake Team Conf.
