Huron man sentenced for child pornography

HURON — A Huron man was recently sentenced after previously pleading guilty to possessing child pornography. At a court hearing on Sept. 25, Corey Naylor, 34, 600 block Cleveland Road W., was convicted on two counts of pandering obscenity involving a minor or impaired person, a second- and fourth-degree felony. Naylor pleaded guilty to the two charges on July 14 in exchange for: • 10 additional counts of pandering obscenity involving a minor or impaired person, both second and fourth-degree felonies • One count of possessing criminal tools, a fifth-degree felony, to be dismissed Erie County Common Pleas Court Judge Roger Binette sentenced Naylor to four to six years in prison. Naylor received credit for one day served in jail and will be placed on a mandatory term of five years of post-release control, according to court records. Under the terms of his sentencing, Naylor is classified as a Tier 2 sex offender, which means that he must provide verification of his home address to the local sheriff approximately every six months for a period of 25 years. Background The investigation into Naylor first began on Aug. 15 after the Internet Crimes Against Children task force assigned the case to the Huron Police Department. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received information from the free mobile messaging app Kik regarding a possible case of child pornography within the city limits, according to a Huron police incident report. The company provided the task force with the alleged email address that was used as well as the username responsible for uploading the child pornography, including an IP address. Based on the information received, Huron police started reviewing the two files provided by the task force, which were identified as belonging to Naylor's Kik account. Both depicted sexually explicit videos depicting a minor. Police stated that Naylor was suspected of uploading and sharing both videos, according to the report. Due to the nature of the videos, Huron police prepared and obtained a search warrant for MediaLab AI, which owns the app Kik, to collect all information regarding Naylor's account. The files were returned by the company on Nov. 10. After Huron police reviewed all the files that were provided, they noted that several videos and images contained child pornography and prepared to obtain a search warrant for Naylor's residence. On Dec. 16, Police responded to Naylor's home and explained to Naylor the nature of the warrant and his rights. Police stated that the only statements Naylor made to them pertained to the age of the girls he was communicating with on his Kik account. Naylor allegedly told police that all the girls he was communicating with told him they were in their 20s, the report states. During the search, police seized Naylor's cellphone, laptops, tablets and hard drives. Police dropped off Naylor's cell phone at the Erie County Sheriff's Office for a forensic examination. On Jan. 20, Huron police retrieved the cellphone from the sheriff's office as well as the completed report, which showed four videos that depicted underage girls who were either "nude or engaged in sexual conduct," the report states. Naylor was initially arrested on March 13 following an indictment from the Erie County grand jury on March 11 for six counts of pandering obscenity involving a minor or impaired person, each a fourth-degree felony. On March 27, Naylor was indicted on six additional counts of pandering obscenity involving a minor or impaired person, each a second-degree felony, and one count of possessing criminal tools, a fifth-degree felony.
