700 cars pass through OVI checkpoint

FREMONT — Several local law enforcement agencies —the Ohio State Highway Patrol's Fremont post, the Sandusky County Sheriff's Office and Fremont police — reported conducting a successful OVI checkpoint recently occurring on Rawson Avenue in Fremont. The checkpoint ran from 8-10 p.m. on Sept. 19 with: • A little more than 700 vehicles passed through the checkpoint and were checked for impairment. • Two vehicles were diverted for further investigation. • One suspect was arrested for impaired driving and child endangerment. A total of 15 officers from these three agencies worked the checkpoint. After the checkpoint, troopers, sheriff's deputies and local police officers patrolled Sandusky County in an effort to educate motorists about the dangers of drinking and driving. Law enforcement officers stopped an additional 25 vehicles as part of saturation patrols and arrested another individual for impaired driving. "Officers in Sandusky County remind motorists to drive safely, wear your safety belts and don't drink and drive," according to a patrol statement.
