Group bullish on Bordner

PORT CLINTON — The Greater Port Clinton Area Arts Council will feature an exhibit showcasing the work of Seth Bordner and the Plein Air Group. It will be on display at The Arts Garage — 317 W. Perry St., Port Clinton — throughout October and a couple days in November. Bio blast Seth Bordner (1980-2017) was an American painter whose work fused satire, social critique, and raw emotional expression. Drawing inspiration from artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat and Banksy his bold, provocative style confronted themes of politics, identity and mortality. "This first exhibition honors his fearless vision and enduring artistic legacy," according to an event statement. The Plein Air Group is made up of local artists who gather to paint "en plein air," French for "in the open air outdoors." The concept of outdoor landscape painting emerged in the early 19th century and gained prominence with Impressionism. As group member Nike Mendenhall writes, "It's not easy to paint outdoors. Only dedicated artists regularly face the challenges of wind, rain, heat, sun, cold, animals, bugs and onlookers." Want to go? Come celebrate these artists at an opening reception scheduled for 6-8 p.m. on Friday at The Arts Garage. People can see the exhibit from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursdays through Sundays during the period spanning Oct. 2 through Nov. 2. In addition, The Arts Garage offers classes for children and adults. Children who live in Ottawa County may take children's classes at no cost but must be accompanied by an adult. Interested persons can register at gpcaac.org.
