PREP ROUNDUP: Perkins knocks Columbian out of first place in Lake

TIFFIN — Perkins knocked Tiffin Columbian out of first place in the Sandusky Bay Conference Lake Division with a four-set volleyball road win Thursday. The Pirates prevailed 25-21, 11-25, 25-21, 27-25. A kill by Viera Walker finished the fourth set and the match. "We know what we're capable of," Perkins coach Brandon Duvall said. "There's a lot of maturing going on with this team. They're getting better and that's all we can ask." Micah Slay led the Pirates with 16 kills and four aces. Walker added 13 kills and 11 digs and Ferrell Coleman finished with 11 digs. Braelyn Davie finished with 42 assists and Avery Maldonado had 24 digs. Avisi Geholt was 19 of 19 serving with two aces. "We have been discussing competitive stamina," Duvall said. "There have been teams in the past that we haven't beaten, and then there are teams that we are right there with them and we end up causing our own problems." Perkins improved to 9-7 overall and 4-2 in the Lake. The Pirates are tied for second place with Columbian (10-6, 4-2) and Norwalk, one game behind first-place Bellevue. Perkins, which has won four of its last six matches, visits Elyria Catholic on Saturday before visiting Sandusky next Tuesday.
