PREP ROUNDUP: Perkins, Edison will battle for first in SBC

The boys soccer teams from Perkins and Edison took care of business Wednesday, setting up a huge Sandusky Bay Conference matchup next week. Perkins defeated Columbian 7-0 on the road and Edison handled Old Fort 13-2 at home. Both teams are now 7-0 in the SBC and will square off at 5 p.m. Monday at Edison. "We know they're a good opponent," Perkins coach Paul Lea said. "We're as prepared for them as well as anyone else. I expect to go in there and do what we've done all season." The Pirates and Chargers both are have put together dominant 2025 seasons. Perkins is 9-0-1 overall, its only blemish a 4-4 tie against Holland Springfield, which suffered its first loss of the season Tuesday. The Pirates have scored 88 goals and allowed only 10. Edison is 12-0 and has outscored its opposition 115-8. "We've had it circled on our calendars since our preseason began," Edison coach Nate Leimeister said. "Them and Norwalk, we know they're good. "I'm nervous to be coaching in it. My team's playing so well, I don't want to screw anything up." There are seven returning all-SBC first team boys soccer selections this year and all seven play for Perkins or Edison. Perkins' returning first-teamers are Kaden Camp, Talon Walton, Ryan Wells and Ashton Wadsworth. Camp and Titus Normington-Slay each scored two goals against Columbian. Both Pirates have scored more than 20 goals this season. Anthony Bonica, Ryan Wells and Mateusz Dixon each scored one goal. Edison's returning first-teamers are Alex Davidson, Jose Serna Amaya and Trevor Leimeister. Davidson, Serna Amaya, Gavyn Blackburn and Carter Jones each scored three goals in Wednesday's rout. Davidson, who doubles as Edison's football kicker, has scored 42 goals this season. "Our kids are excited," Leimeister said. "(Davidson) has all his football buddies coming. It's gonna be electric here." Perkins' defense will be tasked with slowing down the Chargers' high-powered offense. "We have a lot of experience back there," Lea said. "We have five seniors who help out on defense as well as Ryan Wells at center-mid." Perkins has won three straight in the series, including a 4-1 victory last year at Perkins. That followed 10-0 and 3-0 shutouts. Edison's last win against the Pirates was a 3-1 decision in 2021. The winner of Monday's match has a clear path to the SBC championship. Each team will have four SBC tests remaining. Perkins wraps up the regular season at Norwalk on Oct. 8. Edison travels to Vermilion the same day. GIRLS SOCCER Perkins 6, Columbian 0 TIFFIN — Perkins shut out Columbian 6-0 to improve to 9-2 overall and 6-1 in the Sandusky Bay Conference. Isa Ramirez and Hayley Henning each scored two goals for the Pirates. Columbian dropped to 6-8, 4-4. Bellevue 1, Port Clinton 0 BELLEVUE — Reece Young scored the only goal as Bellevue shut out Port Clinton to improve to 4-7-1 overall and 3-5 in the Sandusky Bay Conference Abigail Johnson had seven saves for the Redskins (4-5-1, 3-4-1). BOYS GOLF Norwalk's Shoop advances to district ARLINGTON — Norwalk's Cohen Shoop shot an 87 at a Division I sectional at Sycamore Springs, then punched his district ticket with a par on a playoff hole. Shoop, Norwalk's Caleb Thompson and Wapakoneta's Henry Eley all shot 87 then had a playoff to fill the last two individual district berths. Eley and Shoop advanced. The Truckers finished eighth as a team with a 369. Findlay won the sectional with a 318, overcoming a rain delay. Lima Shawnee's Ashton Wright shot a 73 to earn medalist honors. The district tournament is scheduled for next Friday at Shawnee Country Club in Lima.
