PREP ROUNDUP: Edison girls qualify for district

GALION — Edison's girls golf team finished second at a Division II sectional Tuesday to advance to district play next week. The Chargers shot a 382 to claim runner-up honors at Valley View Golf Course. Team champion Wynford (366) and Colonel Crawford (398) also will play next week. Edison junior Annabelle Seville shot a 76 to finish second among individuals. Seville had 13 pars and a birdie on the par-5 17th hole. Also scoring for the Chargers was Leah Sharp (95), Ella Rogers (99) and Averi Wolf (112). Huron junior Ashtyn Spooner shot a 78 to advance as an individual. The Tigers finished seventh in the team standings with a 426. Mansfield St. Peter's Joy Kim was medalist with a 1-under-par 72. She had four birdies. The top three teams and top three individuals not on advancing teams qualified for district play Monday at Sycamore Springs in Findlay. At the district tournament, the top four teams and top four individuals not on advancing teams will qualify for the state tournament. Margaretta's Ellyse Schaefer qualifies for district FOSTORIA — Margaretta senior Ellyse Schaefer shot an 86 at a Division II sectional at Fostoria Country Club to advance to next week's district tournament. Schaefer, who shot a 39 on the front nine, will compete in the district tournament Monday at Sycamore Springs in Findlay. She advanced by claiming one of the three spots for girls not on advancing teams. Margaretta finished fourth as a team, shooting a 387. Also scoring for the Polar Bears was Ellaynah Schaefer (92), Jenae Farrell (97) and Cassidy Lane (112). Van Buren (368), Hopewell-Loudon (370) and Old Fort (383) finished in the top three to claim district berths. Van Buren's Addyson Adams was medalist with a 77. Fremont St. Joseph's Ryan Dickman was second at 78. Danbury (407) finished sixth out of 13 teams that fielded full squads. Lakers senior Miranda Evans tied for sixth with an 89 and senior Ashley Lewis shot a 94. Port Clinton (462) was 10th. Lillie Fox tied for ninth among individuals at 90. VOLLEYBALL Perkins 3, Clyde 0 PERKINS TWP. — Braelyn Davie reached 1,000 career assists to help Perkins sweep Clyde 25-15, 25-12, 25-23 in Sandusky Bay Conference Lake Division action. The Pirates improved to 8-7 overall and 3-2 in the SBC Lake. Davie finished with 25 assists while Micah Slay, Ferrell Coleman and Viera Walker each tallied eight kills. Avery Maldonado led Perkins with 15 digs. Clyde fell to 4-12, 1-4. Columbian 3, Sandusky 0 TIFFIN — Columbian swept Sandusky 25-15, 25-13, 25-17 to improve to 10-5 overall and 4-1 in the Sandusky Bay Conference Lake Division. The Blue Streaks fell to 1-12, 0-5. Huron 3, Vermilion 0 VERMILION — Huron defeated Vermilion 25-14, 25-15, 27-25 to improve to 11-4 overall and 5-0 in the Sandusky Bay Conference Bay Division. Mya Smith had 10 kills for the Tigers. Addison Graham added nine kills and Maggie Orzech finished with seven. Reece Hotz had 34 assists and Adelyn Van Sickle posted 13 digs. For the Sailors (5-10, 1-4), Elyse Myntti had seven aces and Emma Gebhardt had six kills. Edison 3, Port Clinton 0 PORT CLINTON — Edison topped Port Clinton 25-23, 25-16, 25-15 to improve to 7-9 overall and 3-2 in the Sandusky Bay Conference Bay Division. Chargers libero Taylor Moore broke the school's career record for digs. Moore had 15 in the match to push her career total to 1,227. Ella Booth had nine kills for Edison and Peyton Taylor added six kills. Paige McFadden had 12 assists. Peyton Bissell added 10 assists, 12 service points and three aces. PC dropped to 4-12, 0-5. Willard 3, Margaretta 0 CASTALIA — Willard defeated Margaretta 25-12, 25-18, 25-17 to improve to 12-3 overall and 4-1 in the Sandusky Bay Conference Bay Division. Kenadie Saylor had seven kills for Margaretta (5-9, 2-3). Lilly Belak had five kills and 13 digs. Ella Limberios finished with 21 digs. SMCC 3, Hopewell-Loudon 2 BASCOM — St. Mary Central Catholic defeated Hopewell-Loudon in five sets of Sandusky Bay Conference River Division play, 25-21, 25-22, 25-27, 19-25, 15-13. Reid Didion had 30 kills and 23 digs for the Panthers (3-13, 1-9 SBC River). Finley Karr added 47 assists and 20 digs. Khloe West finished with 10 kills and 20 digs.Danbury 3, New Riegel 0 NEW RIEGEL — Danbury swept New Riegel 25-8, 25-18, 25-23 in Sandusky Bay Conference River Division action. Avrey Bowling had 11 kills for the Lakers (9-8, 5-5 SBC River). Lauren Bergman tallied 34 digs and Cali Wunder had 20 assists and three aces. Monroeville 3, Crestview 1 MONROEVILLE — Monroeville defeated Crestview in four tight sets, 25-27, 25-18, 26-24, 25-23, in Firelands Conference play. Madi Reiber had 23 kills for the Eagles (14-2, 9-0 FC). Alexa Adams added 12 kills and Ady Adams had 10. Addison Homan finished with 39 digs and Addison Lyons had 29 assists. Kaci Poths added 25 assists. Crestview fell to 12-5, 5-4. St. Paul 3, Mapleton 0 ORANGE TWP. — The Flyers improved to 8-3 overall and 8-1 in the Firelands Conference with a 25-13, 25-16, 25-22 win over the Mounties. Shealyn Deeter finished with 12 kills while Brooklyn Cassidy had nine and Kegney Stoll had eight. Annie Friend set 30 assists while also adding 10 digs. Bella Guerra also had 10 digs and Lily Cuturic had nine. Friend was also 15-for-15 serving with two aces while Taegan Mansfield-Bush was 9-for-9 serving with four aces. TENNIS Port Clinton 5, Vermilion 0 VERMILION — Port Clinton clinched the outright Sandusky Bay Conference Bay Division title with a sweep of Vermilion. Simpson won the boys race in 17:01. Wiechman finished first in the girls race in 18:21.
