PREP ROUNDUP: Bellevue girls cross country wins SJCC Invite

FREMONT — Reese Meacham finished second overall to lead Bellevue to the girls cross country team championship at the Fremont St. Joseph Invitational on Saturday. The Lady Red finished with 31 points. Plymouth (67 points) was second, Port Clinton (108) was fourth, Danbury (110) was fifth and Monroeville (127) was sixth. Meacham finished in 20 minutes, 10 seconds. Port Clinton's Morgan Wiechman was first in 18:27. Kameron Koch took fourth for Bellevue in a time of 21:04. Brynlee Porter (22:03) was fifth, Gwenyth Williams (23:10) finished eighth, Brooke Webb (23:41) was 11th, Holly Caranfa (23:44) took 12th and Daisy Musselman (24:17) was 13th for the Lady Red. Ellie Colon was sixth for Danbury, finishing in 22:12. Miranda Ertsenian was eighth in 22:33. Kenley Schafer topped Monroeville with a seventh-place finish in a time of 22:16. Kendyll Hartlaub backed Weichman's performance by taking 19th for Port Clinton in 25:14. Seneca East took the boys title with 33 points. Port Clinton finished fourth with 124 points, Danbury (138) was sixth and Monroeville (179) was 10th. Port Clinton's Charlie Simpson was second overall in a time of 17:05. Jackson Lee took 11th for Danbury in 19:38. Killian Marsden finished 16th in 20:18 for the Lakers. Etchill 10th for SMCC ONTARIO — St. Mary Central Catholic's Eli Etchill took 10th overall at the Ontario Bill Brown Invitational. The junior finished in 17:24, leading the Panthers to 13th as a team. Ontario won the team championship with 88 points while SMCC finished with 267 points. Bellevue was 15th with 311 points. Pavan Gorty was 40th for SMCC in a time of 18:52. Geo Torres (18:56) was 44th and Trey Robinson (19:57) took 72nd. Brock Meacham topped Bellevue in 18:12, taking 21st. Also for the Redmen, Elias Sponseller (19:20) was 56th, Owen Panyard (19:37) finished 64th and Tucker Williams (20:49) was 96th. In the girls race, Nicolette Hile finished 14th in 21:20 for SMCC. Huron sweeps Norwalk Invite NORWALK — Rylie Towns won the girls race at the Norwalk Invitational, helping lead the Tigers to the team championship. Huron finished with 27 points while Amherst Steele was runner-up with 42 points. Norwalk (90 points) was third, Edison (143) finished fifth, St. Paul (155) was sixth and Perkins (172) took seventh. Towns finished in a time of 19:14. Claire Putnam (19:51) was third, Andrea Lesnak (19:52) finished fourth, Sasha Fry (20:38) was ninth, Laney Schlessman (20:43) took 10th and Liz Heidl (21:01) finished 11th for the Tigers. Norwalk's Saige Konik crossed the finish line in 20:18, good for fifth. Teammate Olive Leavitt was right behind in sixth, finishing in 20:22. Lillie Price took 17th for Perkins in 21:21. Ella Mischner was 26th in 22:44 for the Pirates. Lily Risner was best for Edison, taking 23rd in a time of 22:26 while Juliana Johnson was 30th in 23:05. Huron also claimed the boys title with 57 points, finishing ahead of Edison's 66 points. Perkins (69 points) was third, Norwalk (73) finished fourth and Sandusky (149) was sixth. Joel Smelcer from Perkins won the race in a time of 15:39. Huron's Sage Edgerly-Bork (16:01) took second while teammate Jason Nims (16:45) was third. Sandusky's Miguel Marquez finished fourth in 17:07, ahead of Edison's Kellen McDonnell (17:12) and Mason Leber (17:25.21). Huron's Achilles Figueroa was seventh in 17:25.65. Nicholas Coiffard from Perkins nabbed eighth in 17:49 while Norwalk's Casey Kromer (17:53) and Willard's Dream Mills (17:56) rounded out the top 10 finishers. Zang wins at Van Buren FINDLAY — Margaretta sophomore Cole Zang won the Van Buren Invitational that was ran at Owens Community College. He crossed the finish line in a time of 16:46. AJ Walters took fifth in 17:09 while Kyle Walton was 28th in 18:27 for Margaretta. On the girls side, Polar Bears freshman Tenlee Hammer was 13th in 22:03. Lucy Hartman was 27th in 23:30 for Margaretta. TENNIS PC dominates at SBC Bay PORT CLINTON — The Redskins won all five individual titles at the Sandusky Bay Conference Bay Division tournament. "I'm so proud of this team," PC coach Joe Miller said. "It's a rare feat to sweep a conference tournament, but our girls did it in dominating fashion. We played 22 sets today and never dropped more than two games in a set. This team spent the offseason training at Court 1, playing in USTA tournaments, and getting out to play tennis whenever it was possible. "It's so much fun to watch their hard work pay off." At first singles, Grace Arnold was champion, defeating Edison's Liz Campbell 6-2, 6-2 in the final. Arnold got to the final via a bye and a win over St. Mary Central Catholic's Rachel Spicer (6-2, 6-2) in the semifinals. Campbell topped Huron's Rachel Merkens (6-2, 6-2) in the other semifinal. PC's Nora Pixler slipped past SMCC's Caitlyn Collins in the final at second singles, 6-0, 6-2. Pixler defeated Huron's Emma Barnes (6-3, 6-0) in the semifinals while Collins topped Edison's Jenna Keoghan, 7-6 (9), 6-4 in the other semifinal. At third singles, Port Clinton's Anastasia Hughes defeated SMCC's Rae Roth in the championship, 6-1, 6-2. Hughes defeated Sydney Merckens from Huron (6-0, 6-0) and Roth topped Jillian Strong from Willard (6-2, 6-0) in semifinal matches. Shantha Weit and Megan Zgodzinski took the title at first doubles for the Redskins, defeating Vermilion's Ava Leslie and Cora Frederick 6-2, 6-0. The PC duo took down SMCC (6-0, 6-1) while Vermilion topped Huron (6-0, 6-1) in semifinal contests. At second doubles, Lilly Hatt and Jaelynn Mazur topped SMCC's Lauren Maxwell and Grace Will 6-1, 6-2 in the final. Port Clinton defeated Huron (6-0, 6-0) and SMCC took down Vermilion (6-4, 6-4) in the semifinals. Norwalk takes doubles titles at SBC NORWALK — The Truckers had finalists at all five positions at the Sandusky Bay Conference Lake Division tournament at the Norwalk Middle School courts. The Norwalk doubles teams of Alyssa Gruhlke and Aubrey Kluding at first doubles and Chloe Hazelwood and Riley Helton at second doubles won championships. Gruhlke and Kluding opened with a bye before defeating Perkins' Emma Beatty and Lexi Green (6-3, 6-2) and Columbian's Kenzie Felske and Angela Nominee (7-5, 6-3) in the finals. Hazelwood and Helton also had a bye in the first round. They then topped Clyde's Adriana Barnes-Ortmann and Delaney Fritz (6-2, 6-0) and Perkins' Brynn Catlett and Jencyn Gennari (6-3, 6-1) for the title. Norwalk's Lydia Trost was runner-up at first singles. After a bye, she topped Clyde's Ariah Farrar (6-1, 6-3) before losing to Leah Weingart (6-0, 6-0) in the final. Addy Rospert was second at second singles for the Truckers. She had a bye in the first round before defeating Clyde's Kenzlie Guhn (6-0, 6-0). In the final, Columbian's Elise Johnston slipped past Rospert, 6-1, 4-6, 10-4. Leksi Jurczuk took second at third singles for Norwalk. After a bye, she topped Perkins' Katelynn Troyer (6-0, 6-0) before a loss to Columbian's Leah Wahl (6-4, 6-3) in the final. VOLLEYBALL Danbury 3, Fostoria 0 LAKESIDE — The Lakers defeated Fostoria 25-7, 25-18, 25-17 in non-league action. Avrey Bowling clobbered 12 kills for Danbury (8-8). Lauren Bergman nabbed 25 digs, Cali Wunder dished 18 assists and Quinn DiBucci served three aces for the Lakers. Norwalk 3, Ashland 1 NORWALK — The Truckers improved to 7-5 overall with a 26-28, 25-13, 25-23, 25-18 non-league win over Ashland. Ainslee King registered 10 kills for Norwalk while Sawyer Wineman picked up 32 digs. Emily Tyler recorded 32 assists and 12 digs for the Truckers. Maddie Gamble added 28 digs for Norwalk. Edison 3, Wynford 1 MILAN TWP. — The Chargers topped Wynford in non-league action 24-26, 25-22, 26-24, 25-20. Elle Booth had 13 digs and 11 kills for Edison (6-9) while Macari Harris (seven blocks), Dana Preston and Abby Cloud each lined nine kills. Taylor Moore contributed 23 digs for the Chargers while Peyton Bissell (six digs) tallied 18 assists and Paige McFadden (nine digs) had 14 assists. Gilmour Academy 3, Huron 1 HURON — Division III No. 8 Gilmour Academy topped the Tigers 25-15, 25-22, 22-25, 30-28 in non-league action. Mya Smith tallied 15 kills and five blocks for Huron (10-4) while Jada Foster contributed 13 kills and five blocks. Adelyn Van Sickle led the defense with 17 digs while Reece Hotz had 35 assists and 12 digs. GIRLS SOCCER Norwalk 2, Huron 0 HURON — Claire Spettle scored both goals as the Truckers improved to 8-2-1 overall with the Sandusky Bay Conference victory. Xavi Immel had an assist for Norwalk, which is now 6-1 in league play. Becca Farmer tallied 11 saves in goal for the Truckers. Bellevue 2, Marion Harding 2 MARION — Reece Young and Jersey Mayes each scored for the Lady Red in the non-league draw. Lyla Young assisted both goals for Bellevue (3-6-1). Columbian 8, Sandusky 0 TIFFIN — The Blue Streaks fell to 1-10 overall with the Sandusky Bay Conference loss to Tiffin Columbian. Sandusky dropped to 1-6 in league play. BOYS SOCCER Norwalk 3, Huron 0 HURON — The Truckers set up a huge match against Edison on Monday with a 3-0 Sandusky Bay Conference victory over Huron. Norwalk improved to 6-4 overall and 6-0 in the SBC. They travel to take on the Chargers, who are 10-0, 5-0. Against the Tigers (3-6, 3-3), Norwalk led 1-0 at halftime before pulling away. Landon Ferkel, Conor Nickel and Noah Jameson (assist) all scored for the Truckers. Sandusky 2, Columbian 2 TIFFIN — The Blue Streaks are 1-10-1 overall after the Sandusky Bay Conference tie with Columbian. Sandusky is now 1-6-1 in league play. Fairview Park 2, Vermilion 1 FAIRVIEW — Brady Parker scored the lone goal for the Sailors in the non-league match. Vermilion dropped to 8-5 with the loss.
