13 charged with trespassing

SANDUSKY — Sandusky police arrested several people for trespassing at a local park on Thursday morning. Just before 3:30 a.m., officers were called to Kiwanis Park in the 2200 block of First St. for the report of a person who was jumped and assaulted with possible weapons involved. When officers arrived in the area, with lights activated, several people ran north toward the woods, and seven people remained behind to speak with officers, according to a Sandusky police report. One woman said she was at a nearby tavern when she and two friends went to the park. While at the park, the woman claimed she was jumped by three or four others whom she could not identify. The woman did not have any visible injuries, according to officers. She told officers she was choked. Officers did not locate sufficient evidence that anyone was fighting. Some officers searched the nearby area for those who ran and found six people. All 13 people involved were charged with criminal trespass, fourth-degree misdemeanors. The six who allegedly ran were also charged with obstruction, second-degree misdemeanors. In total, nine women and four men were arrested. All of those involved are between 21 and 28 years old. Sandusky police Chief Jared Oliver said many warnings for people being in the park after dark have been issued over the course of the summer. There is a clearly posted sign at the park showing that it was closed at the time of the incident, according to the report.
