Report: Woman slammed door on officer

SANDUSKY — A Sandusky woman is facing several charges after allegedly assaulting a police officer in August. Charlotte L. Kaman, 61, of the 600 block of E. Market St., is facing one count of assault on a peace officer, a fourth-degree felony. Additionally, she is charged with two misdemeanors, misuse of 911 and resisting arrest. Just before 10 p.m. on Aug. 28, officers were called to the 600 block of E. Market St. for the report of a woman needing help, according to a Sandusky police report. An officer called Kaman, and she reportedly said her live-in boyfriend was being mean and calling her names, the report states. Officers told Kaman that it was not a valid reason to alert emergency services, according to the report. The boyfriend denied having done anything to Kaman. He said that when she drinks, she becomes argumentative. Officers again asked Kaman for details about an alleged assault, which she would not provide. Officers told Kaman she would need to stop calling 911 without a valid reason. At that point, according to the report, Kaman became agitated and asked officers to leave the property. While officers were leaving the home, Kaman allegedly began to yell coarse language, which could be heard from the sidewalk, the report states. While in the frame of the door, one officer began to turn toward Kaman, and Kaman reportedly aggressively slammed the door shut, striking the officer in the right shoulder, according to the report. Officers then entered the home to arrest Kaman for assault. Kaman reportedly began to flail around and resisted her arrest. Reasonable force was used to detain Kaman, the report states. Kaman reportedly continued to flail and kick her legs, but officers were able to get her in the backseat of a cruiser and deliver her to Erie County Jail. She has since been released. Kaman pleaded not guilty to the charges. Her next court date is not available according to the court website.
