PREP ROUNDUP: Hart helps Perkins clinch Lake title on injured knee

SANDUSKY — Perkins' girls golf team won a Sandusky Bay Conference Lake Division shootout Thursday at Mills Creek to clinch the overall conference season title. The Pirates shot a 189 to edge Norwalk by two strokes. Perkins won four out of six shootouts and also won Wednesday's SBC tournament. Clyde, which trailed Perkins by one point in the Lake standings heading into the shootout, placed third with a 198. Perkins junior Ireland Hart, playing with a brace on her injured right knee, shot a 39 to earn medalist honors and clinch Lake Player of the Year honors. Hart injured her knee in a powder puff football game Wednesday night. "I give her credit for going out there and giving it a go," Perkins coach Tim Belden said. "We got her a cart waiver. She wasn't able to swing the driver and she used a 6-iron off the tee. With as short as Mills is and as hard as (the ground) was, she kept it in play and was OK." Lucy Miller shot a 47 and Maycee Bohn carded a 49 for the Pirates. Ava Quillen also scored for the Pirates with a 54. "We've had different kids step up all season," Belden said. "It was a true team victory. All six kids contributed." Bellevue was fourth at 208 and Columbian placed fifth at 217. Norwalk's Catherine Beamer and Adyson Lepley and Clyde's Sienna Turner tied for second at 43. Bellevue's Mariska Manning was fifth at 46. Clyde's Samantha Young shot a 47. St. Paul 207, Willard 209 WILLARD — Alia Bogard fired a 49 to lead the Flyers to a non-league win at the Willard Golf Club. Aubrey Dilger added a 50 and Jillian Weilnau shot a 51 for St. Paul. TENNIS Norwalk 3, Columbian 2 NORWALK — Norwalk's No. 1 doubles team won a third-set tiebreaker to lift the Truckers to a 3-2 Sandusky Bay Conference Lake Division win over Tiffin Columbian. St. Paul improved to 7-2 overall and 7-1 in FC play. Kegney Stoll had nine kills and two blocks for the Flyers while Ella Kalizewski and Brooklyn Cassidy each had six kills. Annie Friend had 24 assists while Lily Cuturic had 23 digs. Kalizewski added 18 digs, Cassidy had 17, and Friend added 12. Cuturic was 14-for-14 serving with four aces and Friend was 14-for-14 with three aces. BOYS SOCCER Perkins 12, Fremont Ross 2 FREMONT — Perkins blitzed Ross 12-2 in non-league action to improve to 8-0-1. Titus Normington-Slay had four goals and two assists and Kaden Camp had four goals to lead the Pirates. Mateusz Dixon added three goals and and Kohen Fullerton added a goal and assist. The Pirates travel to Columbian next Wednesday. Edison 8, Wellington 2 WELLINGTON — Edison improved to 10-0 with an 8-2 non-league victory at Wellington. Alex Davidson led the Chargers with four goals and an assist. Carter Jones added three goals for Edison. Jose Serna Amaya, Trevor Leimeister, Kellen McDonald, Gannon Chartrant and Gavyn Blackburn each scored one goal. Serna Amaya added two assists. GIRLS SOCCER Oak Harbor 8, Edison 0 OAK HARBOR — Kaitlyn Meloche scored three goals to lead Oak Harbor (8-1-2) to a shutout win over Edison. BOYS GOLF Perkins wins tri-match PERKINS TWP. — Perkins shot a 168 to win a tri-match at Woussickett Golf Course. Firelands finished second at 179 and Oak Harbor shot a 200. Perkins' Kyle Schaefer won medalist honors with a 38. Josh Cummings shot a 39 and Colton Kelley finished with a 43. Ty Obergefell rounded out the Pirates' card with a 48.
