Local superintendent resigns

VERMILION — Vermilion school board members recently accepted the retirement of superintendent David Hile and later appointed Wesley "Wes" Weaver as interim superintendent, effective Oct. 11. Hile's retirement takes effect Oct. 10. Hile, who made $152,000 a year, noted he's leaving due to personal reasons. After a closed-door session, board members entered back into public session to unanimously approve Weaver's appointment. Information regarding his salary was not readily available. Before this, Weaver served as Vermilion's assistant superintendent and curriculum director. Among some other notable aspects occurring at the meeting, board members: • Approved a memorandum of understanding with the local teachers' union to correct vacation pay language • Listened to a financial presentation, highlighted by the district's general fund, or everyday operating budget, totaling $9.2 million, up from roughly $9 million in each of the prior two years • Authorized to receive bids for one 54-passenger handicap-accessible school bus as well as one 12-passenger school van
