PREP ROUNDUP: PC tops Ross in 50 years of girls tennis celebration

PORT CLINTON — Port Clinton celebrated 50 years of girls tennis Wednesday, topping Fremont Ross 5-0. The Redskins improved to 14-0 this season with the win. "It was great to hear from legendary Redskins like Karen Coffin, Rod Gale and Lindsay Dunn before the match," PC coach Joe Miller said. "Our a cappella group, Touch of Class, performed the alma mater and national anthem, and then our girls ran through a tunnel of 50 years of Lady Redskins before running out to the courts as our marching band played the fight song. "The positive power of this program, school district, and community were on full display at the Hablitzel-Von Thron Tennis Center." Singles: Grace Arnold (PC) def. BOYS GOLF SMCC 176, Port Clinton 192 SANDUSKY — Blake Finneran shot a 37, lifting the Panthers to a Sandusky Bay Conference crossover win over Port Clinton at Plum Brook Country Club. Joey Finneran added a 41 while Pravir Gorty (46) and Jack Davis (52) rounded out the scoring for SMCC. Carter Thompson led Port Clinton with a 43 while Evan Lovitt carded a 47. Brayden Busby and Derek Holly each shot a 51 for the Redskins. GIRLS SOCCER Norwalk 6, Columbian 0 NORWALK — Claire Spettle scored four goals for the Truckers, giving her 100 for her career in the Sandusky Bay Conference victory. Spettle added two assists for Norwalk (7-2-1, 5-1 SBC Lake). Xavi Immel added a goal and an assist. Emerson Reamer scored her first goal for the season for the Truckers. Huron 6, Clyde 0 CLYDE — Five different players scored for the Tigers in the Sandusky Bay Conference win. Kate Gilbert tallied two goals for Huron (4-4-1, 4-1-1 SBC) while Ava Manner, Elli Ness, Erin Findley and Marisa Macioce each scored once. Lillian Thompson and Kate Ryan each recorded two assists for Huron, which led 4-0 at halftime. Woodmore 7, Port Clinton 0 PORT CLINTON — Abigail Johnson made seven saves for the Redskins, but they were overwhelmed in the Sandusky BAy Conference contest. Port Clinton fell to 4-4-1 overall and 3-3-1 in league action. BOYS SOCCER Huron 1, Clyde 0 HURON — Peter Cencer scored on a header from Carter Brennan for the Tigers' lone goal in the Sandusky Bay Conference victory. The game was tied in the second half before Cencer's goal gave Huron (3-5, 2-2 SBC) the lead and win. Port Clinton 5, Willard 1 PORT CLINTON — Casey Brand scored two goals and added an assist for the Redskins in the Sandusky Bay Conference win. Wyatt Brand also tallied two goals for Port Clinton (5-4-1, 4-3-1 SBC) while Adam Fitt scored one goal. Caden Hanson made seven saves in goal for the Redskins. Norwalk 4, Columbian 0 NORWALK — The Truckers scored twice in each half in the Sandusky Bay Conference victory. Norwalk (5-4, 5-0 SBC Lake) led 2-0 at halftime before doubling up the Tornadoes in the second half. Kingston Gonzales, Elliot Gahring and Landon Ferkel scored for the Truckers. Brady Ream made three saves, recording his first varsity shutout and win.
