Clyde man facing child porn charges

FREMONT — A Clyde man who was indicted last month for allegedly downloading and possessing child pornography has since been released from jail on his own recognizance. On Aug. 22, Charles J. Gibson, 29, 6000 block Ohio 101 E., was indicted by a Sandusky County grand jury on 10 counts of pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor or impaired person, each a second-degree felony. According to Gibson's indictment, the alleged crimes occurred on or about Nov. 25, 2024, when he allegedly "downloaded a video depicting a nude minor female engaging in sexual conduct with an adult male" along with other pornographic videos involving children. The investigation into Gibson began on the same day the alleged crimes occurred after a detective from the Sandusky County Sheriff's Office was assigned a case. It was initially given to Clyde police from the Cuyahoga County prosecutor's office's Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, according to a sheriff's office report. In total, there were 11 different cybertips submitted to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children from various social media platforms that contained "child sexual assault material." Due to the multiple tips, the task force sent a subpoena to Spectrum, which led back to Gibson's residence and linked his IP address to 10 of the 11 cybertips, the report states. Gibson was arraigned on Aug. 26 where he entered a plea of not guilty. His bond was set at $10,000, and, as of Tuesday afternoon, he has been released from jail, according to court records. Gibson has a pre-trial hearing scheduled for 11 a.m. on Sept. 25.
