Norwalk shuts out Bellevue for SBC win

NORWALK — The Norwalk girls soccer team held visiting Bellevue scoreless in Monday's 4-0 win at the Norwalk Soccer Complex. It marked the first meeting between the two programs. Bellevue recently added soccer as a varsity program after playing two seasons as a club sport. In Monday's win, junior standout Claire Spettle scored three goals for a hat trick, and assisted the fourth goal, scored by Xavi Immel. Norwalk (6-2-1, 4-1) will host Tiffin Columbian in another Sandusky Bay Conference match at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Contractors Stadium. The NHS boys will follow at 7 p.m. against the Tornadoes. Edison 1, Huron 1 MILAN — The Chargers and rival Huron played to a draw Monday night on the turf at Freedom Field. With just over a minute left in the first half, Sophie Baker scored on a penalty kick to give the Chargers a 1-0 lead. The Tigers tied it up with six-plus minutes left. Ella Rogers made several saves in goal for Edison, now 3-4-2 overall. The Chargers travel to Oak Harbor for a non-league match on Thursday. BOYS SOCCER Edison 7, Huron 0 MILAN — The Chargers continued their hot start to the season with Monday's SBC rout over the visiting Tigers at Freedom Field. Senior Alex Davidson scored three goals and classmate Wade Ruggles scored the first two goals of the match for Edison, which improved to 9-0 overall and 5-0 in the SBC. Sophomore Ivan Burris also scored for Edison, as did Josh Wikel. Jose Serna Amaya assisted on teh goal. The Chargers have outscored their opposition 88-2 and have already set a school record for most goals in a season. Davidson has 34 of those. Edison has eight regular-season matches remaining. Norwalk and Perkins also are unbeaten in league play. The Chargers host Norwalk next Monday and host Perkins on Sept. 29.
