Four area football teams receive votes in 2nd poll

Four area football teams — Vermilion, Bellevue, Edison and Margaretta — are among the state-ranked squads in the season's second state football poll, which was released Tuesday. Vermilion is No. 15 in Division IV while Bellevue is No. 16 in Division IV. The Sailors (3-1) lost to Elyria Catholic last week and dropped from No. 13. Bellevue (3-1) defeated Norwalk and is in the rankings for the first time this season. Edison improved to 3-1 with last week's 20-0 road win over Johnstown Monroe. The Chargers moved up a spot to No. 12 in Division V. Margaretta (3-1) is in the Division VI rankings at No. 18 for the first time after a 42-0 thumping of Willard last week. The only change at the top of any divisions was in Division II, where Cincinnati Anderson overtook previous No. 1 Uniontown Lake. Lakewood St. Edward (Division I), Bishop Watterson (Division III), Shelby (Division IV), Liberty Center (Division V), Kirtland (Division VI) and Marion Local (Division VII) remained atop their respective divisions. Monroeville 8th in volleyball poll After being in the others receiving votes category last week, Monroeville jumped into the top 10 in Division VII in this week's state coaches poll. Monroeville went 3-0 last week, sweeping St. Paul and New London before a four-set win over Buckeye Central. St. Paul and New London both won district titles last year while Buckeye Central was district runner-up to New London. The Eagles (11-2, 7-0 Firelands Conference) swept Ashland Mapleton on Tuesday. Monroeville faces Norwalk (5-4) on Wednesday in non-league action. Huron stayed in the receiving votes category this week in Division V. The Tigers swept Clyde and Edison last week. Huron (9-3, 3-0 Sandusky Bay Conference Bay Division) hosts Margaretta (5-7, 2-1) on Thursday. St. Paul received votes in Division VII. The Flyers (6-2, 6-1 FC) host Western Reserve on Thursday.
