TERRA STATE COMMUNITY COLLEGE • A free welding certification course will be offered at Terra State Community College on Sept. 29. The Great Lakes Community Action Partnership WorkAdvance program will offer the free course at the college in Fremont. Evening classes will be four nights a week, from 5-9 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays, over six weeks. Classes are limited to 10 students. By taking the class, students earn flat position certification from the American Welding Society certified welding inspector service after successful testing. They will also receive OSHA 10-hour safety training. The program also offers career coaching support through the partnership. PERKINS • Shivan Brunning O'Malley from Perkins High School is a semifinalist for a scholarship from the National Merit Scholarship Corp. O'Malley has the chance to continue in the competition for some 6,900-plus scholarships with almost $26 million. SANDUSKY LIBRARY • The Sandusky Library recently hosted 14 teams made up of more than 70 students from local libraries to compete in this year's Northern Ohio Libraries Battle of the Books. Teams gathered at BGSU Firelands on Sept. 6 for the 10th-annual tournament. Fourth- through eighth-grade students read books across several genres to be quizzed on. Team Sandusky Library was crowned the champion. Participating libraries included Bellevue Public Library, Birchard Public Library, Huron Public Library, Milan-Berlin Library District, Norwalk Public Library and Sandusky Library. SANDUSKY • The Sidney Frohman Planetarium has a list of free shows announced on its website. ST. PAUL • Two students, Aubrey Dilger and Charlotte Hosack, were selected as St. Paul High School's September 2025 Kiwanis Students of the Month. Here are the students' activities, honors and achievements: — Dilger: golf, ACE Academic Award, class officer, liturgical ministry, leadership team, National Honor Society, Kairos team, prom committee, Leadership By Example Award and football manager — Hosack: National Honor Society, cross country, Academic ACE Award, liturgical committee, Leadership By Example Award, Model UN competition team, prom committee, Kairos team, retreat leader and publication editor EDISON • Edison Elementary School is a partner with the Cleveland Browns' Stay in the Game attendance initiative. Through the initiative, one student in kindergarten through third grade with perfect attendance in the first two weeks of school received recognition. Students learned about the pioneer lifestyle, famous people from the time period and how children lived and played.
