Students injured in Sandusky County bus crash

SCOTT TWP. — Several students were injured when the bus they were riding on was involved in a traffic crash on Thursday evening in Sandusky County. In total, 10 people were transported to hospitals with injuries, according to a media release from the Fremont post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. On Thursday evening, a Northwood Schools bus left Lakota Schools where a junior high school football game occurred. Just before 7 p.m., the bus's driver, a 67-year-old Northwood man, failed to yield from a red light while northbound on County Road 32, the release states. A Jeep Compass SUV, traveling westbound on County Road 41, then struck the bus. At the time of the collision, there were 26 occupants on the bus, the patrol said. Of those, six students and the driver suffered minor injuries and were taken by ground ambulance to a Fremont hospital. Another student who suffered minor injuries was transported to an Oregon hospital. The SUV's driver, a 46-year-old Fostoria woman, sustained minor injuries and was taken to a Wood County hospital. One student on the bus who suffered non-life-threatening injuries was flown by medical helicopter to a Toledo hospital. Sandusky County sheriff's deputies assisted troopers from Post 72 with the incident. The current condition of those injured is unknown. The crash is under investigation, and no citations have yet been issued. Northwood Schools posted about the incident Thursday night on social media.
