Huron blanks Bellevue for second SBC victory

HURON — Soccer is a game of chances and Monday in a game full of them, Huron converted two to take a 2-0 victory over Bellevue in Sandusky Bay Conference action. The Tigers (2-4, 2-1 SBC) plastered Bellevue goalkeeper Ryleigh Knutti with five shots in the first three minutes. Knutti stood tall, saving all five. A big theme in the game was Huron dominating possession of the ball as Bellevue did not put a shot on goal. In a game that featured a lot of defending for the Lady Red (2-5, 1-3) in their defensive third, Kuntti kept Bellevue in the game. "I think it was one of those games as a newer and inexperienced team that we got away early from what we wanted to do," Bellevue coach Josh Young said. "It is a little tough playing from behind." The first goal of the game came on a beautiful through ball from Laynie Findley to Erin Findley in the 34th minute. Huron continued to challenge Bellevue's netminder with 13 shots and nine on goal. The Tigers came into Monday's match after playing a difficult non-conference schedule in order to prepare for the SBC schedule. "Honestly, coming into the game, we have been challenged out of conference," Huron coach Josh Thompson said. "Our four losses are to opponents that are 23-2. We want to be there in the end as well." The theme of the night continued in the second half as Huron kept possession until the second goal of the night, which came from Erin Findley from Kate Ryan in the 74th minute. "In a game where we pinned them back, I think it gives our team confidence," Thompson said. "We knew eventually we would punch one in." Knutti kept the Lady Red in the game with 15 saves on 17 shots. "(Ryleigh) works really hard," Young said. "I am super proud of her. I do not think she could have played much better." Looking ahead, Bellevue hosts Northwood on Wednesday while Huron hosts Tiffin Columbian the same night. "We want to get to 3-1," Thompson said. "I am confident going into Columbian and I know my girls will be ready."
