PREP ROUNDUP: Weichman, Zang, Towns finish 3rd at Tiffin Carnival

TIFFIN — Port Clinton's Morgan Weichman took third overall in the girls Division II varsity race at the Tiffin Carnival on Saturday, finishing in 18 minutes, 19 seconds at Hedges-Boyer Park. Norwalk's Saige Konik was 18th in the same race race in 19:26 while Olive Leavitt took 37th in 20:18. Reese Meacham paced Bellevue in 19:56, good for 30th. Huron's girls were second overall in the Division I Varsity race with 74 points. Perrysburg topped the field with 54 points. Rylie Towns finished third overall in the race in a time of 19:10. Claire Putnam (20:00) was 11th, Andrea Lesnak (20:13) was 15th and Liz Heidl (20:30) took 21st for the Tigers. Cole Zang was third in the boys Division III Varsity race for Margaretta in a time of 16:37. A.J. Walters was right behind him, taking seventh in 17:17. Charlie Simpson led the Port Clinton boys with a 44th-place finish in 16:55 in the boys Division II varsity race. Brock Meacham took 78th in 17:37 for Bellevue while the top placer for Norwalk was Nolan Jones in a time of 17:58. In the girls Division III Varsity race, Tenlee Hemmer led Margaretta with a 34th-place finish in 22:02. Deanna Vazquez was 50th for St. Paul, crossing the finish line in 22:43. In the boys Division I Varsity race, Sage Edgerly-Bork took eighth overall for Huron, finishing in 16:17. Jason Nims was 20th for the Tigers in 16:55. Smelcer wins at SE ATTICA — Perkins' Joel Smelcer continued his winning ways, taking home the individual title in the Stripes varsity race at Seneca East's Stars, Stripes, and Lights night invitational. The junior crossed the finish line in 15:33, almost 11 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Caleb Burton from Marengo Highland. Blake Wittmer took 19th for Perkins in 17:04 while Nicholas Coiffard was 34th in 17:46. Kellen McDonnell led Edison with a 16:58, good for 16th place. In the girls Stripes varsity race, Claire Michaelis was 11th for Edison in 20:24. Lily Risner took 26th for the Chargers in a time of 21:10. Laney Renfro led Clyde with a 20th-place finish in 20:57. Kayla Tischler was 38th for the Clyde in 21:48. VOLLEYBALL Bellevue wins Crestline Invite CRESTLINE — Bellevue defeated Mansfield Senior (25-1, 25-5), River Valley (25-23, 15-25, 25-15) and Ashland (25-19, 9-25, 25-20) to win the Crestline Invitational. Against Mansfield Senior, Kate Baptista tallied 12 aces and three assists while Ellie Freitag dished eight assists. Calie Cramer had six kills and Finley LaPata lined five kills. Things got tougher against River Valley. Freitag dished 30 assists with Cramer and LaPata each smacking 14. Emma Krall had 16 digs while Baptista (15), LaPata (14) and Julia Dauch (12) each picked up double-digit digs. Bellevue (8-3) went the distance against Ashland to pick up the tournament title. LaPata had 14 kills, Freitag registered 30 assists and Krall tallied 20 digs. Baptista added 16 digs in the win. Danbury 3, Toledo Start 0 LAKESIDE — The Lakers swept Start in non-league action, 25-11, 25-10, 25-7. Avrey Bowling tallied 12 kills, five aces and three blocks for Danbury (4-7). Lauren Bergman recorded 19 digs and Cali Wunder had 14 assists for the Lakers. Edison 3, Bucyrus 0 BUCYRUS — The Chargers improved to 4-4 with a 25-13, 25-20, 25-14 non-league win over Bucyrus. Peyton Bissell served for 13 points and added 12 assists for Edison. Stella Brown had 12 points and 10 digs while Taylor Moore registered 17 digs and seven points. Paige McFadden had 14 assists and five points and Dana Preston contributed eight kills, five digs and five points. Monroeville 3, Seneca East 0 MONROEVILLE — The Eagles topped Seneca East 25-16, 25-16, 25-15, in non-league action. Madi Reiber had 14 kills for Monroeville (7-2) while Ady Adams recorded nine kills and four aces. Alexa Adams lined eight kills for the Eagles. Addison Homan led the defense with 19 digs, Addison Lyons had 18 assists, Maddy Miller picked up 17 digs and Kaci Poths had 14 assists, seven digs and two aces. Vermilion 3, Elyria 0 VERMILION — The Sailors defeated Elyria 25-16, 25-16, 25-18 in non-league play. Lauren Logsdon served for 19 points and six aces, dished 10 assists and picked up 10 digs for Vermilion (3-6). Sophie Habermehl and Emma Gebhardt each had seven kills while Delaney Russell tallied 16 digs and five aces. Elyse Myntti also had 10 assists for the Sailors. Lake 3, Perkins 1 PERKINS TWP. — The Pirates were defeated by Lake 25-15, 25-22, 20-25, 25-18, in non-league action. Micah Slay led Perkins (5-4) with 16 kills, three blocks and three aces while Ferrell Coleman lined 12 kills. Braelyn Davie served up 37 assists and Avisi Geholt had 15 digs. Huron 1-2 at Gilmour Invite GATES MILLS — The Tigers defeated Brunswick (25-17, 25-21) before losses to Mentor Lake Catholic (23-25, 25-13, 28-26) and Kenston (25-22, 25-20) at the Gilmour Academy Lancer Invite. Huron is 7-3 on the season. On the day, Reece Hotz had 69 assists while Jada Foster led the team with 25 kills. Mya Smith added 21 kills, Addison Graham lined 14 kills and Ava Trevino had 10. Jenna Cox was 39 of 41 serving with 10 aces while Adelyn Van Sickle was 27 of 27 serving. Hotz and Taylor Wlodarsky each picked up 27 digs for Huron while Van Sickle had 26 digs.
