Fall debate schedule set

SANDUSKY — The general election happens on Nov. 4. And, in the month leading up to this all-important voting contest, the Register plans on hosting four debates to give locals a better feel for potential candidates seeking to represent them. As in years past, the 2025 in-schools debate series, sponsored by the Greater Sandusky Partnership, offers local officeholders and challengers, all vying for a variety of offices, an opportunity to express their platforms. These debates are designed to offer voters clarity and context for the important issues they'll vote on come Election Day. Students in high school government classes work with their teachers to develop questions, powering the hourlong program. Debates set up in schools aren't open to the public. But they'll all be available for demand viewing, once completed, at sanduskyregister.com as well as the Register's YouTube channel. Community members, however, can submit questions ahead of time to potentially be asked at these debates by emailing news@sanduskyregister.com. Questions cannot single out a specific candidate. They must be addressed to everyone participating. Where and who Throughout these past few weeks, the Register confirmed the following events: • For Edison school board — 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12 at Milan Town Hall; While the public is invited to attend this specific debate, they can't ask questions on the day of this contest. Local students participating in the Edison Speech and Debate program through the Berlin Heights Kiwanis Club will be posing the questions to candidates. In this race, seven people are running for three open seats: — Incumbents Stephen Berry and James Suhanic — Member Samantha Limberios, who was recently appointed to fill a vacant position after filing her candidacy petitions — Challengers Laura Dunn, Mark Harrington, William Muthig and Jacqui Rockwell • For Perkins Township trustee — Tuesday, Oct. 14 at Perkins High School In this race, three people are running for two open seats: — Incumbents Tim Coleman and Jim Lang — Challenger Lisa Crescimano • For Sandusky school board — Wednesday, Oct. 15 at Sandusky High School In this race, four people are running for two contested seats: — Incumbents Jennifer Chapman and Martha Murray — Challengers Jennifer Ashburn and Talib Garrett • For Sandusky city commission: Wednesday, Oct. 22 at St. Mary's High School In this race, five people are running for three contested seats: — No incumbent is seeking re-election — Challengers Patricia Ferguson, Gregg Peugeot, Tim Schwanger, Tom Tucker and Luvada Wilson
