A colorful welcoming

SANDUSKY — A new school year marks another start to Sandusky Central Catholic School's house system. Students in grades 6-12 are assigned to one of the six house groups and remain in that house during their entire time at the school. The houses are named after saints. Each house contains a mix of students from the various grade levels, which allows unique friendships to form. The houses compete against one another on a weekly basis. They also split up into smaller groups to reflect and pray together. Madelyn Wechter, the campus minister at Sandusky Central Catholic School, just started this school year, and she's thrilled about her role at the school. Wechter also oversees the house system. "I'm really excited to see the kids be integrated with one another and see how they work and grow together," she said. "The sixth-graders can learn from the 12th-graders, and even the 12th-graders can learn from the sixth-graders. We can all learn from everybody." On Thursday, the houses welcomed their newest members: the sixth-grade class along with new students. Fr. Chris Turner helped build the excitement among the students with a special celebration. After students joined their house, everyone grabbed a handful of colored powder and tossed it into the air to create an explosion of color. Then they tossed around more powder with their friends to end the school day.
