Free fall cleanup scheduled

SANDUSKY — Have you fallen behind on keeping your home tidy? Well, if you live in Sandusky, there's a free fall litter removal program to help those people out. The semiannual Citywide Cleanup, also referred to as "Dump Day," occurs from 8-11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20 at the Shelby Street Boat Launch, 101 Shelby St., Sandusky. The event will end promptly at 11 a.m. "We encourage residents to arrive early to ensure they are able to make it through in time," the statement read. This twice-a-year event, occurring in both spring and fall, not only helps residents rid themselves of unwanted items without having to pay for their removal but also cleans up neighborhoods. "This event is an opportunity for residents of the city to bring unwanted items for disposal," the statement read. "Volunteers will be available to assist residents with unloading items." Anyone who resides in Sandusky can participate. People must show a valid photo identification or other proof, such as a utility bill, before dumping off items. Among the materials: • Permitted — appliances; batteries; bicycles/exercise equipment; carpet; electronics; furniture; mattresses/box springs; passenger car and light truck tires but no tractor tires, and there's a limit of 10 tires per person with rims being removed; flat TVs; unwanted household items; and unwanted paper documents with a limit of two banker boxes per household • Prohibited — commercial landscaping debris; commercial trailer loads and/or oversized rental truck loads; construction debris; hazardous waste; household garbage; liquid recycling; paint; prescription pills; propane tanks; residential yard debris, such as trimmings, sod, stumps and/or rocks; and tube TVs The city extended "a special thank you to Sandusky City Schools' Gentlemen's Club and Leading Ladies for volunteering to make this event possible and to our event partners: Firelands Local, Rumpke, Goodwill Industries, Home Depot, Ohio Tire Terminal and Sandusky Steel."
