WEEK 2: Hohler, Kuhns put up big numbers

Area high school football teams will kick off Week 3 in two days. Before we look ahead, let's take a quick look at Week 2 standouts. — Huron senior QB Landon Hohler threw five touchdown passes and ran for two scores to lead the Tigers (1-1) to a 48-12 non-conference win at Elmwood. — Sophomore QB Landon Leis completed 9 of 20 passes for 162 yards to help Port Clinton (2-0) rout Fostoria. Senior QB Wyatt Yarbrough missed the game with an injury. — Vermilion senior RB Evan Kuhns ran for a school-record 417 yards and added five touchdowns to lead Vermilion (2-0) to a 42-12 win over rival Firelands. — Clyde senior RB Adam Young carried 26 times for 203 yards and scored a touchdown rushing and receiving in the Fliers' 30-13 loss to Toledo Start. Clyde is 0-2. — Margaretta senior QB Jake Bouy scored three touchdowns to lead the Polar Bears (1-1) to a 21-0 win over Western Reserve, which played without standout QB Hayden Keith. — Edison senior RB Bryson Wittmer carried 19 times for 111 yards and scored all five Charger touchdowns in a 35-10 win over St. Paul. Edison is 2-0. — Perkins senior QB Sam Schweinfurth completed 11 of 15 passes for 193 yards and three touchdowns in the Pirates' 55-6 win over Toledo Scott. Conner Smith accounted for two of the Perkins defense's five interceptions. The Pirates are 1-1. — Sandusky sophomore Dante Shipp Jr. returned the opening kickoff against Fremont Ross 97 yards for a touchdown and caught a 13-yard touchdown pass in a 48-14 loss. The Blue Streaks are 0-2.
