'Sticky situation' closes intersection

PERKINS TWP. — A traffic crash closed an intersection in Perkins Township on Tuesday. Just after 10 a.m., first responders were called to the intersection of West Strub Road and Campbell Street for the report of a traffic crash. They arrived to find a concrete truck that struck a trailer hauling asphalt sealer. Both vehicles came to a rest at the southeast corner of the intersection. The trailer ended up on its side and sprayed sealer over the ground and the front of the concrete truck. The truck's driver was hit by the sealer and injured. The person driving the vehicle hauling the trailer was not injured. EMS did not transport anyone to the hospital. Because the sealer did not have any grit in it, when it dried on the pavement, it became very slick. The only way to get rid of the sealer is to mill it out. Out of an abundance of caution, Perkins police decided to close the intersection for "several days," according to a social media post. "We understand this may be inconvenient for many travelers, but please be patient," police said. "Plan for extra commute time and seek an alternate route." Road crews erected "road closed" signs at other intersections near the crash site.
