Couple complete 100 parkruns

HURON TWP. — Osborn MetroPark parkrun is part of a global running/walking community. There are more than 2,000 events around the world with 90-plus across the U.S. These events are completely free, volunteer-based and occur weekly on Saturday mornings in a local greenspace. Participants can register via parkrun.us/register and attend any of the worldwide events. Huron residents Beth and Brian Schwartz have been regular attendees of Osborn MetroPark parkrun since the very first event in July 2022. This past weekend, they both completed their 100th parkrun — a major milestone for parkrun participants. They are the first homegrown parkrunners to reach this impressive feat. Although there are no prizes at parkrun, there are various parkrun milestones that participants can work toward for finishing or volunteering at a certain number of events. These milestones are associated with different colors depending on how many races one finishes: • 10 — white, only for youth • 25 — purple • 50 — red • 100 — black • 250 — green • 500 — blue Once a person has reached a milestone club, then this participant can purchase milestone shirts or other milestone merchandise, which helps fund the free events. The black 100 shirts were presented to Beth and Brian by me, co-event director of Osborn MetroPark parkrun, ahead of event No. 154 this past weekend. Joel and Mary Rose Peugeot also recently hit parkrun milestones 50 and 25, respectively. They received their milestone shirts from Beth and Brian. We love to celebrate milestones at parkrun, as it allows us to show our appreciation of the community. It takes some amount of effort to wake up early on a Saturday morning for a run. Doing that 100 times is incredible. The milestone shirts are a great way to show support for the organization, which provides these free events each week. We often welcome parkrun tourists from other locations, including a family from Canada this past weekend. We make sure all visitors are also celebrated and feel welcomed. Participants meet near the Community Gardens of Osborn MetroPark, 3910 E. Perkins Ave., Huron, at about 8:45 a.m. each Saturday.
