Movie night paid homage to Edison

MILAN — The Thomas Edison Birthplace Museum welcomed nearly 90 guests to its Night at the Movies with Mr. Edison event on Aug. 8 at Milan Town Hall. The evening featured a lively lineup of vintage Edison Studios films, including: • "The Great Train Robbery" (1903) • "The Little Train Robbery" (1905) • "Jack and the Beanstalk" (1902) • "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" (1910) Attendees also enjoyed an engaging question-and-answer session with Edison impersonator Mike Woloszyk, who brought the inventor's wit and personality to life. Audience members shared their delight at the experience. "I didn't realize how much Edison shaped the early style of the movie industry and how much of that is still with us," said Steve Prout, an attendee. His wife, Betty, added, "Edison's movies took us back in time. We thought they would be very simple, but they were actually quite involved. We could follow the storyline easily, and the modern music made them hysterical." Guests sampled refreshments, provided by Adam's on Main and Baker on the Square; participated in a raffle and silent auction; and placed bids on unique items, including recently retired Milan light pole banners, and Cleveland Browns tickets. The museum extends its gratitude to event sponsors Rotary Club of Milan, Jim's Pizza Box and Schlessman Seed Co. for helping make the evening possible as well as to volunteers and staff who brought the event to life. "Night at the Movies with Mr. Edison was a wonderful way to celebrate our community, our history and the magic of early motion pictures," said Kaitlyn Brulia, Development Director of the Edison Birthplace Association.
