Guardians will face Cubs in 2026 home opener

CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Guardians' home opener in 2026 will be against the Chicago Cubs on Friday, April 3. Cleveland will host the Cubs and the Kansas City Royals on its first homestand next year. The Guardians announced their 2026 schedule Tuesday. Cleveland will open the season with seven road games, starting with a game at Seattle on March 26. The 2026 season will mark Cleveland's 126th year as a charter member of the American League and its 33rd season at Progressive Field. Following a three-game set in Seattle to open the season, the Guardians will travel to Los Angeles to face the Dodgers for three games (March 30-April 1). The Guardians' April 3 game against the Cubs will be the second time in franchise history that a National League team will provide the opposition for the home opener. The 2026 season will feature eight summer weekends at Progressive Field: May 29-May 31 vs. Boston; June 12-14 vs. Detroit; June 26-28 vs. Seattle; July 2-5 vs. Chicago White Sox; July 17-19 vs. Pittsburgh; July 31-August 2 vs. Arizona; August 14-16 vs. San Diego; August 28-30 vs. Kansas City. The Guardians will play host to eight National League opponents in 2026, including the Cubs (April 3-5), Cincinnati Reds (May 15-17), Washington Nationals (May 25-27), Pittsburgh Pirates (July 17-19), Arizona Diamondbacks (July 31-August 2), New York Mets (August 4-6), San Diego Padres (August 14-16) and San Francisco Giants (August 18-20). Cleveland will play only 11 home games in June after getting 15 home dates in May. The Guardians will have one 10-game homestand when they host Seattle, Texas and the Chicago White Sox from June 26 to July 5. The Guardians will play the White Sox on July 4 in downtown Cleveland. The Guardians' longest road trip is a nine-game stretch in Milwaukee, Houston and Chicago (White Sox) from June 16-24.
