Back to school again

Backpacks were donned, new shoes and outfits on display as children returned to school for the 2025-26 school year. Many of our local school districts had their first school days this past week: a time-honored annual tradition for many families. Some of us experience that now through children of our own, as we buy them supplies, help them prepare and ferry them to and from school. We can also recall distinct memories of those first-day feelings from our own days in school: getting up early, boarding the bus and meeting classmates you often hadn't seen in months. We always enjoy visiting the schools on the first day and capturing those scenes in our newspapers. Truly, a full range of emotions on display on the kids' faces, ranging from "excited" to something less than excited. We also loved an interaction one of our reporters had with a young boy. When asked how he felt about returning to school, he responded, "I have no comment on that at this time, thank you." His dad is a lawyer, you see, the principal told us. Here's hoping everyone has a good new school year.
