Bar shooter pleads guilty

NORWALK — A man accused of shooting two people at a tavern near Willard in January 2024 pleaded guilty to three felonies on Monday. Kyle C. Vanderpool, 25, who has listed addresses in both Willard and Plymouth, pleaded guilty to one amended count of aggravated assault, a fourth-degree felony, one amended count of attempted felonious assault and one count of illegal possession of a firearm in a liquor permit premises, both third-degree felonies. Vanderpool pleaded guilty to the three charges in exchange for seven other felony counts being dismissed. He is scheduled to be sentenced at 1 p.m. on Oct. 15, according to court records. Background On the evening of Jan. 16, 2024, deputies from the Huron County Sheriff's Office responded to the Havana Tavern near the intersections of South Street and North Greenfield Road near Willard for a report of a shooting. The two individuals who were shot have not been identified by authorities, and the only information provided was that they were taken to the hospital and treated and released for their injuries, according to the Huron County Sheriff's Office.
