Gallery hosting 3-women show

PORT CLINTON — The Greater Port Clinton Area Arts Council will showcase the talents of three artists — Nancy Pierce, Marsha Skinner and Janet Wells — in the "Three-Woman Show" next month at The Arts Garage in Port Clinton. Here's a quick bio on each provided by the council: • "Pierce, who has studio space at The Arts Garage, is a lifelong artist who started with pencils, crayons and paint. (She) has progressed through art education and real-world experience in graphic design and illustration to where she is after retirement with the passion continuing through her use of watercolors, painting with dyes on silk fabric, and other experimental materials and methods." • "Skinner is a local artist who grew up on the shores of Lake Erie. She studied art under a professional artist for several years, beginning at age 11, and quickly developed an intense love for oil painting. Her work is largely inspired by local landmarks, wildlife and scenery found along the stunning Lake Erie coastline and has been shown at numerous events and received several awards." • Wells enjoyed a 30-year career as an art educator after earning degrees from Bowling Green and Kent State. (She) has studied under pastel artists in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Asheville, North Carolina. She has won several awards in plein air painting competitions. Her artwork is featured in collections across the country. The public is invited to an opening reception — scheduled for 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 5 at The Arts Garage, 317 W. Perry St., Port Clinton — to celebrate the artists of this show. The exhibit does open one day before, Sept. 4, and remains available for public viewing until Sept. 28. The garage is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays. In addition, The Arts Garage offers classes for children and adults. Children who live in Ottawa County may take children's classes at no cost but must be accompanied by an adult. Interested persons can register at gpcaac.org.
