PREP ROUNDUP: Vermilion boys golf wins SBC shootout

PORT CLINTON — Adam Gerber and Sam Riddle each fired a 39, leading Vermilion to the win in a Sandusky Bay Conference Bay Division boys golf shootout at the Catawba Island Club on Wednesday. The Sailors won with a team total of 177 while Willard (182) was runner-up. Margaretta (185) was third, followed by Huron (191), Edison (197) and Port Clinton (231). Noah Penton added a 49 for Vermilion while Landon Booker rounded out the scoring for the Sailors with a 50. Keiygan Morris and Jaxson Bohn both tallied a 44 for Margaretta. Julian Washington added a 46 for the Polar Bears. Grant Humphrey paced Huron with a 42 while Paul Murray carded a 45. Edison was led by Owen Price's 42 with Hayden Lewis shooting a 50. Evan Lovitt topped Port Clinton with a 54. SMCC 4th at River shootout ELMORE — Blake Finneran tallied medalist honors with a two-over 37 at Sugarcreek Golf Course, but St. Mary Central Catholic was fourth as a team. Just six shots separated the Panthers' 170 from winning Tiffin Calvert's 164. Joey Finneran and Pravir Gorty each tallied a 42 for SMCC while Leo Will added a 49. Danbury took seventh with a team score of 182. Frankie Kovach topped the Lakers with a 43. Danny Carroll (44), Evan Sandvick (45) and Mason Kihlken (50) rounded out the scoring for Danbury. Crestview 168, St. Paul 206 NORWALK — Mason Beatty's 37 wasn't enough for the Flyers as Crestview won in convincing fashion at Eagle Creek. Connor Polachek carded a 48 for St. Paul. Everett Beal shot a 56 for the Flyers. GIRLS GOLF Danbury wins tri-match HURON — Miranda Evans picked up medalist honors with a 39 to lead the Lakers to a tri-match win over Perkins and Huron at Thunderbird Hills Golf Club. Danbury finished with a 190 while Perkins shot a 193. Huron tallied a 199. Ashley Lewis added a 43 for the Lakers while Charley Lenthe (52) and Alexa Hamann (56) rounded out the scoring. Ireland Hart led Perkins with a 40. Lucy Miller shot a 50, Ava Quillen carded a 51 and Maycee Bohn and Makenna Marianek each carded a 52. Huron was paced by Ashtyn Spooner's 42. Lindsay Wainwright added a 43 and Ava McFee shot a 49 for the Tigers. Crestview 210, St. Paul 229 NORWALK — Alia Bogard shot a career-low 48, but the Flyers came up short against Crestview in Firelands Conference action at Eagle Creek. Aubrey Dilger added a 49 for St. Paul while Annabelle Cooper and Arielle Kuhlman each carded a 66. GIRLS SOCCER Perkins 1, Elyria Catholic 0 ELYRIA — Allie Brunner scored the lone goal of the game as the Pirates escaped with a non-league win. Perkins improved to 2-0 with the win. CROSS COUNTRY Wiechman wins at Upper UPPER SANDUSKY — Port Clinton's Morgan Wiechman finished first at the Upper Sandusky Ice Breaker Invitational on Tuesday. Wiechman crossed the finish line in 19:18. Kendyll Hartlaub was 64th in 26:00 while Micaela Wiechman was 113th in 33:53. For the Redskins boys, Charlie Simpson led the way with a 12th-place finish in a time of 17:44. Gabe Garza (22:13) was 77th, Abram Sandvick (23:58) was 100th and Isaac Schaaf (25:37) finished in 116th.
