Teen suspect in drive-by shootings arrested

VERMILION — Authorities apprehended a 16-year-old wanted in connection with drive-by shootings in Vermilion from last month. An arrest occurred on Thursday in Richland County by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force. Authorities said the child faces multiple felony charges in the Lorain County Juvenile Court system tied to the July 23 shootings. The shootings sparked concern among residents after multiple rounds were fired into a home. No injuries were reported at the time. Vermilion police credited the U.S. Marshals Service, Richland County authorities and the Lorain County prosecutor's office with assisting in the investigation and apprehension. Officials have not released further details because the suspect is a child. The case remains under investigation. This is the second and only other suspect involved in this case, according to police. Jacob Bray, 18, of Sheffield Lake, has been formally charged with five felonies. He remains locked up in the Lorain County Jail. Bray faces significant potential penalties, including up to eight years in prison under the second-degree felony charge alone. Vermilion police previously said it had recovered two firearms believed to be used in the July 23 shooting. The firearms, a shotgun and an AR-style rifle, were seized from a location in Sheffield Lake.
