A great tribute to 'Tommy Boy'

Holy Schnikes! Sandusky residents and visitors truly embraced last week's celebration of the film "Tommy Boy" at the Tommy Boy Fest. The downtown was packed with enthusiasts of the 1995 comedy set in Sandusky, many wearing shirts honoring Chris Farley's title character and the fictional Sandusky-based factory "Callahan Auto Parts" featured in the film. Others wore costumes paying heed to scenes and characters from the film. A lot of people love the movie, evidenced by the turnout, and it's clear a lot of love went into the planning and execution of the event, which coincided with the 30th anniversary of the film. The film's director (Pete Segal), editor (Bill Kerr), sound mixer (Jeff Haboush), lead actress (Julie Warner, who played the character Michelle) and Kevin Farley, brother of the late Chris, all made appearances at the festival. People could see cows up close (but not tip them), pose for a photo with the 1967 Plymouth Belvedere II GTX convertible featured in the film (owned by Segal) and even pose with a statue of the deer that smashes through that vehicle in the movie. Plus, many other events, including music, a cast and crew Q&A and more. The city government and area businesses really bought into the festivities, and it was great to see so many people come out to celebrate the film.
