PREP ROUNDUP: SMCC wins first match at new complex

SANDUSKY — The girls tennis teams from St. Mary Central Catholic and Sandusky played the first match at the new City of Sandusky Tennis Complex on Monday. The Panthers defeated the Blue Streaks 5-0 on the courts on the city's south side that both teams will call home. "We were honored to take part in the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the beautiful new City of Sandusky Tennis Complex, to play in the first-ever varsity match on these courts, and to witness the ceremonial first serve from an area tennis legend in Bernie Seiler," SMCC coach Daniel Miller said. "I'm extremely proud of how our entire team, from players 1 through 12, competed tonight. The effort we've put in, especially over the past week, was on full display." Dignitaries were on hand for opening ceremonies and Miller thanked donors James and Rosaria Sortino, David and Christine Mack and the Central Catholic Athletic Boosters for their contributions. "I extend my gratitude to the City of Sandusky, the Sandusky Education Foundation and the countless other individuals who worked behind the scenes," Miller said. "Without the support of our community and both schools, these tennis courts would not have become a reality." Willard's Adler Ames was the boys individual medalist with a 78. Edison's Annabelle Seville was the girls medalist with an 80. Huron's Paul Murray led the Tigers by shooting an 84. BOYS GOLF Bellevue wins SBC shootout TIFFIN — Bellevue shot a 164 to win a Sandusky Bay Conference Lake Division shootout at Mohawk Golf & Country Club. Bellevue's Sam Cooper was medalist with a 3-over 39. Caden Lindsey shot a 40 to tie for second for the Redmen while Jackson Decker fired a 41. Preston Spurlock and Blake Sutherland each shot 44 to give Bellevue five of the 11 best scores. Columbian finished second (174), followed by Perkins (180), Clyde (184) and Norwalk (198). Ty Obergefell shot a 41 for Perkins. Colton Kelley added a 43 and Josh Cummings shot 44 for the Pirates. Connor Eastby led Clyde with a 43. St. Paul 191, Plymouth 211 SHELBY — Freshman Mason Beatty fired a 39 to lead the Flyers to a Firelands Conference win over Plymouth at Woody Ridge. Connor Polachek added a 44 for St. Paul while Jacob Penwell (53) and Everett Beal (55) rounded out the scoring for the Flyers. GIRLS GOLFDanbury 2nd at shootout OAK HARBOR — Miranda Evans fired a 43, helping the Lakers finish tied for second at the Sandusky Bay Conference River Division shootout at Oak Harbor Golf Club. Danbury and Old Fort each finished with a team tally of 195 while Hopewell-Loudon won with a 186. Ashley Lewis added a 46 for the Lakers while Brilynne Sloan carded a 51. Alexa Hamann rounded out the Danbury scoring with a 55. Alexis Langenberg had the best total for St. Mary Central Catholic, shooting a 57. Emmalyn Redinger added a 58 and Lexi Herzog tallied an 82. St. Paul 223, Port Clinton 229 NORWALK — The Flyers defeating Port Clinton by six strokes at Eagle Creek. Alia Bogard led St. Paul with a 52 while Aubrey Dilger shot a 56. Annabelle Cooper added a 57 and Ava Englert fired a 58. Lillie Fox led the Redskins with a 48 while Makenzie Collins shot a 53.
